Norway Voyage Report from the Cruise Director: Striking Views and a Magical Proposal in Stavanger

Greetings from majestic Norway! It’s day three of our first-ever Norwegian fjords voyage, and I think I speak for all Disney Magic cruisers when I say it is even more magical than expected. After departing from the vibrant city of Copenhagen, Denmark, we enjoyed a beautiful day at sea. Today was our first stop – in Stavanger, gateway to the famed Pulpit Rock.

Adventure seekers journeyed to see this flat mountain plateau, sitting 2000-feet above Lysefjord. Some Port Adventures took our guests on a cruise through the fjord to see this magnificent cliff from below, and the super adventurous hiked to the top, taking in the awe-inspiring views from above. Many got an adrenaline rush by stepping close to the edge, and one man went the extra mile for that rush by getting down on one knee to pop the question (she said yes!)… A big congratulations to the couple, Kyle and Ashley, who are both former Disney Cruise Line crew members!

Disney cruisers who stayed in town chose to walk the cobblestone streets of Old Stavanger and visit Norway’s oldest cathedral – Stavanger Domkirke – dating back to the early 12th century. One of our Port Adventures combines a visit to the cathedral with time at the Iron Age Farm, an authentic farmstead where you can learn about life there 1,500 years ago.

Tomorrow we arrive to Ålesund where, for the first time in forever, only Disney cruisers will have the chance to celebrate our time in Norway with Anna, Elsa and Kristoff. I look forward to sharing reactions from our guests to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Until then!

  • Can you post any pictures when you go through the fjords? That would be great. Thanks!

  • Brent.. I’m sure that this cruise is magical in many ways and the pictures are beautiful.

  • When we tried to visit the Stavanger Domkirke on last month’s transatlantic cruise, we found that it’s closed for the summer for organ assembly and vandalism repair. But we did get to visit the *outside* of the cathedral… There’s a beautiful pond nearby, an easy walk from the cruise dock.
