Say ‘Wingapo!’ to Pocahontas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

As we mark the 20th anniversary of Disney’s “Pocahontas” today, fans of the Powhatan princess now have a lovely new spot to meet her, just around the riverbend.

Pocahontas has made the journey down river to the Discovery Island Character Landing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where she has stepped ashore to meet friends old and new. You can find her there throughout the day, in a setting filled with details inspired by her adventures.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the only place to meet Pocahontas at Walt Disney World Resort, and the park is also the exclusive home to several other popular characters who can’t be found anywhere else. During your next visit, look for Tarzan, Rafiki from “The Lion King,” Dug and Russell from Disney•Pixar’s “Up” and Baloo and Louie from “The Jungle Book.”

  • I remember when you had to go all the way out to Rafiki’s Planet Watch to meet Pocahontas, which was a ways out, but a good excuse to look around the site. (Always liked the veterinary window, and Sounds of the Rainforest.)
    Last trip, she was meeting somewhere on one of the back animal trails, just off Discovery Island–Liked that better, as it was a more natural setting, a little more out of the way, and wasn’t as crowded with guest lines, although that was probably because not as many guests knew exactly where she was.
    Also remember when she used to be at Adventureland, Liberty Square and Epcot US, but sounds like she’s AK exclusive now.

    • Eric – You’re right! Pocahontas has explored many corners of Walt Disney World Resort, before discovering her new home-away-from-home on Discovery Island. Next time you visit, look for Tarzan swinging into that back trail where you once found Pocahontas.

  • Please consider opportunites to meet her at Disneyland as well.

  • Any chance of bringing Meeko back to Animal Kindgom? I haven’t seen him there in a few years. He is my absolute favorite!!!!!

    • Kimberly – Meeko is often out foraging for crackers and other snacks, but does occasionally make appearances with Pocahontas at the Discovery Island Character Landing.

  • What about us here at Disneyland will Pocahontas,Meeko and others be coming out for us to visit. To me it’s not right that WDW gets all these rare characters but Disneyland hardly gets them.

    • Jeffrey – Pocahontas does visit Disneyland Resort during Mickey’s Halloween Party and for performances of “Mickey and the Magical Map,” and you can meet Meeko (along with Koda, Kenai and others) during breakfast at Storytellers Cafe. As for other unique characters, the parks at Disneyland Resort are the only places where you can meet Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Thor, Captain America or Red and DJ from “Cars.”

  • We’ll be there for Mickey’s Halloween Party (Disneyland). Sure hope that’s a meet-and-greet opportunity vs. just an appearance in a parade or other type of performance.

  • I wish that Pocahontas and Tarzan, and other characters from that era of Disney movies were actually able to be found at Disneyland for meet and greets (not just in shows or for special events) so that us tourists could actually have a chance to see them.

  • I would love to see Pocahontas & am going to WDW for Xmas! I sure hope she’s still there (she might need a big furry jacket for warmth.) I’d love to see Meeko too!
    I was at DL last year for Halloween & never saw her. Though there only were a couple meet n greet opps during the Halloween party, with really long lines for a VERY limited time. And a lot of things in the park closed early (kiosks, etc.) It was very disappointing for all the extra money we paid for the Halloween party & to only really got to see Halloween characters in the parade. It’s both my daughters’ & my cousin’s favorite holiday, so we were disappointed. They did pass out a LOT of good candy though, so the kids got over it. ;}

  • I wish they would bring the animal show with Pocahantas back to the AK! I never will forget the kid’s faces when the skunk, and all of the other animals walked out on the stage, it was priceless!

  • I’m visiting WDW for the first time in September and plan to go to the MNSSHP. Is AK the only place that Tarzan and Jane will be out (if Jane is even out this year?) or do they meet in MK too?

    I’m confused because I read that Jane is only out at Halloween parties but the party is in MK not AK… she’s the one I most want to meet! Thank you
