Are you planning to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Disneyland on July 17? If so, get your best duds ready and come dressed in your finest suits and circle skirts . . . we’re inviting you to show your 1955 Disney Side!

When Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955, guests arrived in their fanciest attire . . . even children were dressed to the nines. Fast forward sixty years and many of our guests still enjoy visiting the Disneyland Resort in their three-piece suits and hats, cat-eye sunglasses and pearls. So in honor of our historic opening day, Disneyland Resort guests are encouraged to help us travel back in time by wearing their favorite 1955-inspired ensembles.

Throughout the day, you will have opportunities to show your 1955 Disney Side with special photo locations and themed entertainment. So curl your hair, dust off that fedora and take your Disney Side back in time to celebrate 60 years of Disneyland!

  • It’s my birthday on July 17th!! We cannot wait to go and have the time of our lives! Looking for some vintage clothing. . .may have to make do with what we have. We’re SUCH a DISNEY FAMILY!! Looing forward to celebrating with each and every one of you, whether in person or in spirit. Woo-HOO! My dreams are coming true. ;o)

  • I will be down there and have a 4 day park hopper. Will that get me in that day or does it require a special pass?

  • What time are we allowed to line up? will there be any special entertainment?

  • That sounds like fun! Would like to know what time people will start lining up at? I was there for the 50th and lines started early.

  • Our family at Disneyland the day before it opened to the public because Dad was working for a company that supplied some of the scaffolding for Disneyland. The families of all the people that worked on Disneyland got to go to Disneyland the day before it opened to the public, and all the rides were free!

  • I would totally dress up if I could get there from Utah. I am the queen dresser upper.
I was 3 yrs old when it opened…and have loved the place my whole life.

  • I want to dress up so bad! Sadly I’m not going that weekend, I’ll be going in August. I wish this was the norm for the whole year!

  • I am a deluxe passholder and wish I could attend as well. I had no problem attending the 50th anniversary celebration and was heartbroken to hear my pass wasn’t valid for the 60th.

  • I am turning 60 this year also. Is Disney going to offer any special discounts or Birthday badges for those of us celebrating being born in 1955?? !! 😀

  • Premium passholders are the only passholders that can attend this? How sad, wish I could go this day.

  • That’s my birthday! I would so dress if I was going that day! 🙁 Alas, I will have to wait to go until we arrive for the D23 Expo!

  • Wish I had more time. I’ll have to settle for my 50th anniversary tee shirt instead.

  • Can’t wait to bring my daughter to the celebration on July 17th. when/where can we find information on special anniversary events that will be taking place that week?

  • are they doing something special on july 17 ? like they did for the 50th ? i remember i got a pin at the 50th anniversary it said i was there pin. will they do that again ?

  • Erin, I’d love to see a demonstration video of Parks Blog staff walking down Main St in women’s dress shoes. Even better if they’re heals. You know, for inspiration and motivation.

    • Great idea … starring George, Tyler and Paul, right?

  • will there be a special ceremony as there was for the 5oth and if so, any details on times?

  • Ah, the good old days! 🙂

  • Too hot for that but will be fun to see!

  • I can not wait! We have been planning this for a while. We normally dress in our 1950s vintage for the park. Its only appropriate! Its time people get dressed up for Disneyland again! Save the flip flops and swim trunks for the beach! Lets make Uncle Walt proud! Lets dazzle in our best lurex shirts and slacks! Lady’s, I’m expecting to see amazing outfits straight out of the golden area. Only a few days to go! I’m going to start shining my saddles! See you all at Disneyland.

  • How fun! We will be there! Not sure about the dress…but my hat for that trip just arrived today!

  • When will an official schedule of events be posted for the 17th? Will there be early line-up times and/or extended hours of operation?

  • What a great idea. Hey Erin, I’m assuming that photo is from that day the park opened? What an incredible look at the park if it is!

    • Yes, it is!

  • I was already thinking about doing the same things that day!

  • James’ wife here – LOVE the photo! Wish I could attend, I’d totally be dressed up retro style!

  • I have been planning to dress in my Walt Disney Opening Day best for months. To celebrate the 60th anniversary, I’ve been dressing in 1960s clothes on every visit including dressing in 1964/65 NY World’s Fair attire for the Tomorrowland movie!

  • I will be there, but I don’t think I’m willing to dress up for it in that heat. I will almost definitely be wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

  • Will there be more events planned for the day? Will there be any early lineup like there was for the 50th?

  • My goodness that is going to be a blast! Incredible pixie dusted fun!

  • If only I could get out to Disneyland for this incredible day. This is going to amazing!

    Bob A.

  • Can’t wait, this is going to be a blast to the past!

  • It supposed to be hot that day but I am really considering it cause it sounds so much fun! Hope to: 1. get some friends to join in the fun lol & 2. Be able to get that day off

  • This is fantastic. If only I could get myself to Disneyland in a couple weeks. Hoping this is a hit so you think similarly for Walt Disney World’s 50th in a few years. Think of all the bell bottoms and colorful attire.

  • It’s gonna be SO hot… but I’m all over it.
