As summer is quickly fading into fall, it’s time for back to school shopping. I can’t believe my children will return to school in just a couple of weeks. I recently spent a morning at Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World Resort searching for back to school shopping ideas. Here is a quick look at some of the items I found for those who want to add a splash of Disney to their backpacks.

World of Disney and Mickey’s Fun Finds at Downtown Disney Marketplace both offered assortments of pens, pencils and other cool school tools. I liked the colorful Mickey Mouse-inspired pens and the zipper cases are something I wish I had growing up.

I found some fun apparel items for girls in the Zoey & Pickles boutique inside the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace. They also carried a sweet backpack decorated with images of Mickey Mouse-shaped candies.

Once Upon a Toy store has a new shirt featuring “Miles from Tomorrowland,” the hit Disney Junior animated series.

At Downtown Disney West Side, D-Street had some Oswald the Lucky Rabbit t-shirts, while the Super Hero Headquarters shop carried plenty of apparel options for super heroes of all ages.

Finally, I visited Curl by Sammy Duvall where I found a small assortment of the popular Disney Vans shoes along with clothing and accessories for girls and boys. Next door, Fit2Run, The Runner’s Superstore, has a perfect selection of athletic footwear and more. Both of these shops now open at 10:00 a.m. daily in Downtown Disney West Side.

Here’s a quick shopping tip I learned after my visit – all Downtown Disney shops now open at 10:00 a.m. which includes Downtown Disney West Side. This is a great time to visit as parking is usually plentiful and it’s easier to get in and out of shops.

  • Please bring the Disney Store back to Australia. Please! The Shipping rates are criminal and shopmydisney is a joke!

  • Who doesn’t like to go back to school with a bit of magic and pixie dust in their backpack! Great merchandise for teachers too! Thanks for sharing Steven.

  • “Walt Disney World” and “back to school” should never be mentioned in the same sentence!

  • You almost make me want to go back to school.

So Steven, what time of day were you doing your “shopping”? I’d like to beat the crowds on my next trip. And speaking of my next trip, I’m hoping those blue Oswald shirts are still around next April. Spotted them just after we finished checking out and clobbering the retirement fund at the World of Disney last July. I like that old style angry Oswald.

    • @Mike – I usually like going first thing in the morning. Plenty of parking spaces available in the garage. I’ll have to ask if the shirt will be available next spring. There is a new Disney Parks Shopping app that may help you if you want to get it before your trip. Look for it in U.S. app stores only.

  • Will the merchandise from stores in Marketplace Co-op be on the new shopping app coming out later this month?

    • @Cassie – You can find many items from Walt Disney World Resort via the Shop Disney Parks mobile app. This would include items featured in this story (excluding items from Curl or Fit2Run).

  • James’ wife here – those Disney pencils sure beat the plain, old, yellow #2 pencils of my school days!
