More Delicious Details for Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, Opening This Fall at Downtown Disney

With an aviation theme (Jock was Indy’s frequent pilot in the “Indiana Jones” films) and a primo waterfront location, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar will feature food and drinks inspired by Jock’s globe-trotting to all continents – everything from a Hovito Mojito to Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs. Details follow.

Guests will get a kick out of the salvaged equipment, spare airplane parts and mementos from Jock’s travels that decorate the 150-seat lounge located between Paradiso 37 and The BOATHOUSE restaurant. Outdoors, his old steamboat (now in dry dock) is a fun place for watching the sunset.

At the core of Walt Disney Imagineering is great storytelling: as the tale goes, Jock made a home at this waterfront property in the 1940s after discovering this charming little town while flying Indiana Jones over the Sunshine State in search of the elusive Fountain of Youth in 1938. As a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, Jock often welcomed his globetrotting friends to his hangar for a drink and fun times.

Now Jock and Indy may be gone, but his legendary adventures live on at this exotic watering hole. And that’s what gives the place its charm – and a creative menu of adventurous tastes.

Along with beer and wine, start with clever cocktails such as Reggie’s Revenge and The Fountain of Youth featuring Florida vodkas; Hovito Mojito and The Bitter Barkeep with Peruvian Pisco; Anything Goes with an Asian spirit that packs a little heat; The Aviator’s Flight and The Scottish Professor, and that Cool-headed Monkey with African spirits.

Each of the small plates has a delicious twist, and they’re great for sharing. Dr. Elsa’s She-Deviled Eggs are brined in beet juice with lump crab filling. “Good” Dates feature goat cheese-stuffed dates with Marcona almonds and pickled veggies. Snack of Ra gives a taste of Africa with salads and dips served with injera (bread) and naan crisps. Tanis Tacos are filled with falafel, shredded lettuce and cucumber-tomato salad. The pretzels come with house-made mustard and beer-cheese fondue.

A little more substantial are the Rolling Boulder Sliders with three spice meatballs on mini-buns with yogurt sauce. Or Brody Brats, grilled bratwurst with mustard and pickled cabbage. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar’s take on chicken wings features spicy Asian wings (called “Lao Che’s Revenge”). And “Squid! Why’d It Have to Be Squid” is fried calamari flatbread with spicy harissa.

Get ready for some very fun Disney moments at this new location coming to Downtown Disney!

  • I just read that the Opening Date is September 22nd! Perfect because I will be there on Halloween!

  • Haha Maureen. Me too.

  • I am very curious to see what they do about the costumes. Will members of the Adventures’ Club make an appearance? I love the concept and idea and am excited for the opening near October.

  • When is it opening? Please stop saying “fall”. At least give a month. There is no one who believes Disney doesn’t know yet.

  • Headed back to WDW this coming spring. Can’t wait to stop by Jock’s and try it out!

  • David – Ah! Well, played sir! I overlooked The Hangar having been built in 1940. However, your history is a bit off as well. Dr. Jones in fact did visit and became a member of The Adventurers Club in 1937 when he came to take one of the Club’s French Maid’s, Tallulah Buttertart away from it all, having heard her plea over the Club’s radio broadcast. His inclusion to the evening’s Bon Voyage Hoopla, finalized his membership.

Also, according to the commemorative plaques placed on the Island’s buildings by the Pleasure Island “Histerical” Society, (which also explains why some of the Club’s artifacts were labeled past 1937) the Adventurers Club was sealed on the day of the Club’s annual meeting in 1941 after the attendee’s received word that their founder, Merriweather Pleasure, his daughter Merriam and the crew of his beloved yacht “The Dominoe” vanished at sea. It remained sealed until the island’s rediscovery in 1987 and opened to the public, along with the rest of the Island, in 1989.

So, there was at least one year in which Jock Lindsey’s Hangar was just down the street from the Adventurers Club!

  • This sounds very exciting. I can’t wait to see what kinds of drinks, mugs, and special effects this bar will have.

I do have a question though: Will any of the food options be made vegan so that everyone can enjoy them? The Snack of Ra and the Tanis Tacos seem like they would be really great vegan options.

  • I hope Reggie is around somewhere…

  • Two questions…..since this appears to be part bar and part food….will those under 21 be allowed inside? My 19 year old would adore this!

Second question…..will you be able to make reservations online for this like other restaurants?

    Thank you.

  • Ian – Your comment is a bit anachronistic. Indiana Jones went to Peru to recover that idol in 1936. This blog post clearly states that Jock Lindsay did not open his hangar bar until 1940 (and discovered this area in 1938 while looking for the fountain of youth). So Indy and Jock did not depart from this hangar to recover the idol in Peru as the hangar was built 4 years later.

Also, The Adventurer’s Club closed in 1937 when their Open House sadly failed to raise enough funds to stay open. Indy could have been a member previously and donated artifacts, but unlikely as it sounds like he and Jock never came around the area until 1938. Also Jock Lindsay it turns out is a member of S.E.A., a more serious society of Explorer’s and Adventurer’s that I think Indiana Jones was more likely a member of. He seems like the kind of guy who would have followed in the footsteps of the likes of Harrison Hightower III (good first name there), Lord Henry Mystic, and Mary Oceaneer. I think the Adventurer’s Club members might have been a bit too silly for him, and not nearly exclusive enough for someone of his stature.

In any case, I wish you a Kungaloosh and love taking these stories seriously as if they were real.

  • Will there be specialty mugs….maybe a chilled monkey skull?

  • I’ll be there October 20th-26th and am a huge Indy fan. Hoping it opens before then. I’m SO excited!

  • Chilled… Monkey Brains! Love it!! Can’t wait!

  • I find it fantastic that Indy and Jock departed from his hangar on Pleasure Island to recover the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol in Peru! Did any of Dr. Jones’ discoveries make their way into Merriweather Pleasure’s Adventurers Club since Jock’s hangar was just down the street?

  • Cool stuff! But Jock was only Indy’s pilot once in the films, at the very beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  • What is the estimated opening date?

  • Any clues as to when in the “fall ” this will open? Will be down November 11 to 15 and would love to try it out.
