A big shout out to all of you grandparents who add so much happiness to your family’s lives! Yesterday we celebrated a very special holiday – National Grandparents Day – and to keep the fun going, today’s post is dedicated to you.
Most grandparents will tell you that part of the joy of having grandkids is loving on them with special treats and experiences. We see that all the time with grandparents who bring their families on vacation with us. If you’re the grandparent (or great-grandparent) of little cruisers, here are five ways to spoil them on your next Disney cruise …
1. Join them for playtime: Quality time is the number one gift you can give your loved ones, and if you’re already on vacation with them, chances are you know that! Look for ways you can spend time together doing things your grandkids will enjoy, like playing in our elaborately themed youth clubs. Open House is the perfect opportunity for you to join their world, whether they’re into superheroes, fanciful fairies, intergalactic spaceships or seafaring treasure hunts.
2. Give them a magical makeover. Both little girls and boys love to play dress up, especially when it transforms them into royalty or a swashbuckling pirate. Browse the merchandise stores onboard and at Castaway Cay for that perfect gift you can give your grandkids after the cruise. Better yet, let them pick out a favorite item that will remind them of the things you did together. We’ve been to WDW and DL with our grandkids a few times, and are so excited for our first cruise on DCL in 4 weeks! Our granddaughter is 7 and is an expert on all thing Bibbidi Bobbidi. Our 2 year old grandson had his first haircut at Disney World when he was just 11 months. So of course we have Pirate League reservations for our cruise! Excited to share another Disney experience with them! Absolutely no better way to create memories with the most precious little people in your life. °o°
I am very familiar with the idea of grandparents & grandkids going to Disney together. As a young child in the mid ’70s, my grandmother took me to Walt Disney World from Canada every spring break from the age of seven until the age of nineteen. Since then, I have “Disneymooned” there and we have taken our own growing family on several Disney vacations. Now as grandparents ourselves, we are carrying on my grandmother’s legacy by taking our grandchildren annually. Our granddaughter is 8 years old and we just got back last month from our 7th Walt Disney World vacation with her. For years, we typically would go the week of Grandparents Day, but now we go on summer vacation so that she doesn’t miss any classes. We have even worn matching “Happy Grandparent’s Day” t-shirts with a Disney theme. In October 2013, we took her on our first cruise together. So happy that Disney is recognizing grand-travel, which some travel experts quote as the fastest growing travel trend today.
