Ever wonder what’s going on inside the head of the Hatbox Ghost? In a story that originally ran in the Disneyland Resort Line, a magazine published exclusively for Disneyland Resort cast members, the spirit – who’s caused a sensation since he reappeared at the Haunted Mansion earlier this year – shared his thoughts on fame, rumors and attic haunting.
What do you think of all the attention you’ve been getting since you reappeared?
I am trying to keep it from going to my head. Everybody was very welcoming upon my reappearance — well, everybody except for our spirited bride, Constance. Every bride wants to feel special on her wedding day, and she feels my reappearance has stolen the limelight. Though in my defense, it has been her wedding day for more than 45 years.
We heard a rumor that you were married to the bride before she gave you the ax.
Don’t believe the rumors that are floating around; Constance and I have never been romantically connected.
Doesn’t it get drafty haunting the attic?
Yes, isn’t it delightful? Crypts are too musty. The ballroom is too loud. I find it delightfully unlivable here in the eaves of the mansion.
What would you consider your crowning achievement?
I am very proud of my hatbox collection. The one I often share with passing guests is lined with deep mauve velveteen. It is best viewed from inside the box.
You’ve had quite a cult following for the past few decades. Anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Thank you. You’re heads above the rest.

Any way to get larger resolutions of both images? Would love to use as my wallpaper on my computer.
The Hatbox Ghost is one of the most valuable additions—or re-additions, if you will—to the Haunted Mansion, and I speak for all Guests in thanking you for bringing him back.
For people who have been visiting Disneyland on a regular basis or even just sparingly at every chance they get, this Diamond Celebration has really brought Disneyland to its all-time peak of beauty, value, and entertainment. You have set the bar so high for yourselves that I can hardly imagine what you are going to do for the 75th anniversary to out-do yourselves. Most of us, honestly, would be fine if you continue doing these wonderful things that you have brought to the 60th anniversary.
As for this interview, I LOVE it! This is exactly my type of humor, and I love the subtle references to the ride narration!
It’s true that Hattie was never romantically linked to Chatty Connie. She is a completely different bride than the original beating heart bride spoken of on the 1969 record album.
I am so glad he is home again…he’s got a good head…uh, in the hatbox.
Loved seeing the Hatbox ghost was so happy when we got stopped right in front of him so I could look at him for quite a while this is magnificent I would love to see even more of these interviews with Haunted Mansion characters or just any characters in general. Love this so much! Keep up the good work!
Love the Hatbox Ghost. Great addition to the Mansion. Alo So happy to see he stayed in the Nightmare Before Christmas set.
Ha ha!! I love it!
In the original audio story for the Haunted Mansion, it says that they were involved. “With every beat of his brides heart his head appeared in the hatbox.”
A very creative story, thanks!
Haha. He was a very nice part of the attraction. And really like the effects that were used.
Great piece Erin! I never get tired of creative puns. And I must add that it’s great how some Haunted Mansion canon was added by the piece, in stating that the hatbox ghost and bride were never romantically connected. (Who then, is the doomed groom? hmmm….). I would very much welcome more of these fun interviews!
Thrilled he is still there with Jack Skellington! Great hat collection for the Holidays!
