Top 5: Savoring International Food Traditions with Adventures by Disney

It’s right about this time of year that I tend to get food on the brain. Today it’s traditional Thanksgiving turkey and pumpkin pie, but next week I’ll start dreaming of peppermint, sugar cookies and other sweets as visions of sugarplums start prancing through my head.

One of my favorite parts about traveling with Adventures by Disney is having the chance to sample regional delights that act as the traditional foods of places around the globe. From Peking duck in Beijing, ouzo in Greece or even authentic New York pizza, there’s a great big culinary world to explore, and I want to taste it all!

With this in mind I’m bringing you my top five picks for savoring international food traditions with Adventures by Disney:

Cooking

Italy
This is truly a country known for food, wine and decadence. And on the Adventures by Disney Italy trip you can sample (and stuff yourself) with all your Italian favorites. On this itinerary you have an entire day in Tuscany with a morning pasta-making session with an Italian chef, then sample wine in the Chianti wine-growing region and learn to infuse your own olive oil at an organic working farm. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Quinoa

Peru
Quinoa is currently a major culinary craze here in the U.S., but in Peru, quinoa has been a long-time dietary staple. And on the Adventures by Disney Peru trip, you can sample everything from assorted quinoa-based salads to chicken breaded in a quinoa coating. My favorite food-based experience on this vacation is the traditional Andean feast known as Pachamanca. Your dinner is cooked on top of hot stones in an earthen oven. It’s one of the most memorable meals you’ll ever enjoy.

Scotland
I am a total sucker for anything Scottish. On the Adventures by Disney Scotland vacation you can enjoy one of my favorite things ever, scones! You’ll travel to one of the most mystically beautiful places on earth, the Isle of Skye, where you learn the art of scone making at a local village bakery. I recommend sampling them with a spot of tea (which you definitely should sip with your pinkie finger up).

European Christmas Markets
On the Adventures by Disney Holiday Danube River Cruise you can explore Christmas Markets at nearly every port – from Vienna to Budapest and more. Here you’ll find not only one-of-a-kind crafts and gifts, but also more traditional food and drink than your heart could ever desire! Gingerbread, mulled wine, bratwurst … the list goes on and on. Trust me, you’ll want to pack your stretchy pants.

Norway
Brown cheese! Known as “brunost,” caramelized brown Scandinavian whey cheese is found pretty much everywhere you look in Norway, and it’s especially popular for breakfast. On the Adventures by Disney Norway vacation, you’ll travel to a quaint village nestled in the fjords where you’ll learn traditional cheese making and sample brown cheese, along with other regional favorites.
