Some of the most popular Disney Parks Blog stories in 2015 have been about retail MagicBands. With only a few weeks left in this year, here is an update about new and upcoming retail MagicBands at Walt Disney World Resort.
One of the most requested MagicBand colors this year was purple. In fall, we introduced a purple option for guests who create retail MagicBands at the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. in Magic Kingdom Park. I have even more exciting news! Soon, guests will be able to find an individual purple retail MagicBand in select Walt Disney World Resort merchandise locations. This solid color retail MagicBand will join the other solid color MagicBands we currently offer. Look for the purple retail MagicBand in late December.
Another popular MagicBand request this year was for the Orange Bird which I discussed in a previous Disney Parks Blog article. This retail MagicBand was recently released along with a Princess Tiana MagicBand and a red holiday sweater pattern MagicBand featuring Mickey Mouse.
In addition to retail MagicBands, we have new MagicBand-its inspired by classic Disney characters and attractions at Disney Parks. These small accessories can be easily attached to the side of any MagicBand.
We’ve added new artwork to the previously mentioned Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. location. They include Orange Bird (which you can now have printed on eight different colors including orange or green as pictured). We also have A-E Tickets that are reminiscent of ticket books once used at Disney Parks until the early 1980s.
Finally, we will have two new MagicBands celebrating 2016 that will be released on January 1, 2016.
You may find select retail MagicBands using the free Shop Disney Parks mobile app. Some retail MagicBands I mentioned may be available first on the app before being released in merchandise locations at Walt Disney World Resort. To download, please visit DisneyWorld.com/Shop.
What has been your favorite MagicBand this year?

We are booking a family vacation and I just noticed you had a purple band now, why are you charging for a plain band when all the other colors are free?? My next question is when I book my granddaughter wants the princess magic band, do I order that when I book rooms and tickets?? ty
Any word on the adding more color options/designs for DVC/passholders?
Is there a website that shows what designs/options are available?
I think the purple band should be offered as a free option
for passholders. That would be a nice option with the rise
in the passholder prices. It does seem everyone is hoping
for this color to be offered. Thank you.
Will the purple magic band be available as a free option by march 20th?
@Rebecca – I’ve not heard any specific plans or details for such a thing. I know the retail purple MagicBand is currently available.
Will the rapunzel magic band be available on disneystore??
I really hope Disney adds this to the available colors free to onsite guests. There is no special design other than color, so I would not pay for it when you’re already giving me a free one, as much as I’d love a purple band.
I really want the purple band! I hope they make it a free color choice for passholders!!!!
Is the Tiana 1 avail on property yet? I didn’t see it on disneystore…
@Tanya – Yes, that MagicBand is currently at select merchandise shops. You can also find it online: http://www.disneystore.com/tiana-disney-parks-magicband/mp/1394920/1029720/
My dw is a huge Eeyore fan. Any chance they might be coming out with one soon? I’m sure there are a bunch of Eeyore fans out there!
As an LSU fan, this makes me more than happy.
Do you think that they will ever have resort themed magic bands? That would be a great resort guest perk and/or DVC perk.
PURPLE! yay 🙂
My sister and I are visiting in February. I hope the purple option becomes available to Resort guests soon and we can have them! fingers crossed! Thanks for the new color 🙂
Got my Orange Bird MB last week.
I don’t know who was more excited, me, or the cast member who rang my purchase.

😀 😀
@Angela – Ha! Glad to hear. I was pretty excited too 🙂
I sure hope the MagicBands make their way to the Disneyland Resort in Ca. someday. Quick questions though, why does the 2016 have the music note in the zero?
@Richard – The musical notes are related to the global dated 2016 artwork program which uses a tagline: “Music, Magic, Memories.” Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a closer look at the artwork and new merchandise.
My orange bird magic band arrived yesterday! Can’t wait to wear it to the park in a few weeks 🙂
Yay for purple, and yay for on demand Orange Bird bands! Now I can get multiple colors of Orange Birds! Yes!! The one I ordered through the Disney Parks Shopping App is due to be delivered today, and I can’t wait!
@Christina – That’s wonderful news! I hope you have a great visit and enjoy a Citrus Swirl next time you are at Walt Disney World Resort. 🙂
I never understood why purple was not an offered colored for the free options.. Please bring this to the list of options for the onsite guests.
WHOO-HOO! Purple Magic Band! At last! Already ordered my Orange Bird band, too! So excited!
My favorites are the special event MagicBands that make lights and sounds at the kiosks (Jedi Donald, Not-So-Scary Halloween party, Very Merry Christmas party). They’re just so fun to use each time you scan them at the parks! But just in terms of the art, I love the Figment-at-Epcot MagicBand. Meanwhile, my husband is getting an R2-D2/C3PO band for Christmas that looks completely awesome. So happy to have the new make-your-own option. Hoping for a Yoda option soon!
Thanks for all the great new merch –and merch info– this year! Happy Holidays!
@Trinna – Thank you for sharing some of your favorites. That’s a great list. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Great! Will the purple be available as an option when we are ordering magic bands with our vacation packages?
@Lauren – I don’t know of any immediate plans for that option. I’m only aware of the retail MagicBand right now.
Will the purple MagicBand be available as one of the standard choices for Resort guests? It’s my partner’s favourite color.
@Stephen – Great question. I’ve only heard of the retail purple MagicBand.
With purple being sold in regular retail locations, will this finally be a free option to onsite guests?
@Sandy – At this time, I’m only aware of the retail MagicBand option.
