Aloha! I’m Janelle, the first Disney Ambassador at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. You may have heard my story in the “Meet Aulani’s ‘Ohana” series. I have the privilege of sharing the unique combination of Disney magic and aloha spirit of Hawai‘i and Aulani with all of you!
Here in Hawai‘i, the word “aloha” is used as a greeting. It also means to have love, honor, and respect for everyone. There is a Hawaiian greeting for any time of day! Throughout this new series, I will share those greetings and a few ways you can experience aloha at Aulani from sunrise to well past sundown.
Let’s begin this series with the start of the day. Aloha kakahiaka means good morning!
I love the calm that the start of the day brings. The Hawaiian word for calm or quiet is wailana, and a morning walk through the Waikolohe Valley to Aulani’s Wailana Coffee Bar is the perfect way to enjoy a quiet morning before kick-starting your day with a specialty coffee.
Maybe you are mikimiki or energetic in the morning? Be sure to visit the Mikimiki Fitness Center or try a sunrise yoga session on the beach. Aulani’s fitness team offers a variety of energizing classes for those looking for an active start to the day. A few of my favorite morning fitness activities are the premium paddleboard yoga experience and Splash and Dash Fitness.
If visiting Aulani makes you want to sing and dance first thing in the morning, Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration at Makahiki is the place for you and your ‘ohana. During this fun and interactive character breakfast, we share the flavors and food of Hawai‘i while celebrating through song and dance with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy, who are also on vacation at Aulani just like you!
How will you start your day at Aulani?
