I’m probably not the only one having flashbacks right now, mostly of the late 80s, early 90s style, but here are a few other things you may remember that happened during that time frame at the Disneyland Resort.

I know some of you spent time at the high-tech (for its time) Videopolis! Don’t deny it. During this time, it was also the 30th and 35th anniversary of Disneyland park; a certain intergalactic musical adventure debuted in the Magic Eye theater in Tomorrowland; Star Tours launched us into a galaxy far, far away; we found our laughing place inside Splash Mountain, changes were underway at the Disneyland Hotel; nighttime spectacular “Fantasmic!” gave us our first look into Mickey Mouse’s imagination; Mickey’s Toontown came to life. That, my fellow Disney fans, is just the tip of the iceberg, as I’m sure you know.

To commemorate this special time in Disney Parks history, the art designed by local southern California artist Jeff Granito will appear on a t-shirt, mug, plate, pin and print. Look for the new “Decades” collection at select locations throughout the Disneyland Resort including:

Disneyland Park

Downtown Disney District

Disney California Adventure Park

Disneyland Hotel

Tip: Have you already pressed a penny with this art at World of Disney Store? If not, put it on your list of things to do on your next visit.

What are some of your favorite Disney memories from 1985 to 1994?

  • Hello Michelle – Will you be letting us know when the last plate is released? I found out while I was at the park that the 1995-2004 plate was released this week, but I would like to have a heads up as to when the last one is released like you did for this plate. Thanks.

  • Hi Michelle – as of Feb 1st the 75-84 pennies are still in place at the World of Disney store. I’ll keep checking every few days. I hope it gets there soon.

  • Won’t it be a while before this design is in the World of Disney Penny Press since they still have to feature the 1975-84 designs for ~60 days as they are just finishing up with the 60 Yrs of Holidays designs?

    • You bring up a great point Matthew. Let me truly confirm for you and Oleg and I will update you.

  • Are the mugs be available when I visit in late April or will they be swapped out for the next decade? I need to have this mug, such an awesome design!

    • As long as quantities are still available you should continue to find it in April.

  • Hi Michelle – what memories this art brings out. Question – is the pressed penny machine for this decade already in place or will it start being available on the 14th? Thanks!

    • Oleg it should already be in place!

  • I really miss Videopolis – it was so cutting edge for the timeframe! Saw Chubby Checker perform there in 1987! I suppose kids today like more of the style of the Mad T Party – although even with that I miss the Electronica version!

Love these designs! I am also sad, like Michael above, that there are no Disney Dollars for the 60th!

  • Michelle, talking about collections, beside being a pin collector for over 20 plus years, I am also a collector of Disney Dollars and I can not understand this exciting event not to include any. Will they ever come back? Think of all the wonderfull dollar faces with the Anniversary and opening of the star wars continuing saga. There doesen’t seem to ever having been announced that they are no more? Thanks, from a grandfather with many grand kids of mine asking me the same question.
    Have a Fantasmic day.

  • Do you know when the pin for this event will be released? It is a must have for me

    • The pin should be available now.

  • My first trip to a Disney park was as a young boy in the 80s during this time. Star Tours was incredible! Still have the (unused) bumper sticker! Great memories, great times….

  • this has 3 of my favorite Disneyland attractions and definitely my favorite Disneyland show (Fantasmic)!! Love it
