Have you ever wondered how the Disneyland Railroad steam engines run? Or what Jungle Cruise skippers do when they aren’t in their boats? Beginning this month, Disneyland park guests will have unique, limited-time opportunities to experience some of their favorite attractions in new ways.
While the Disneyland Railroad is temporarily closed this year, guests at the Main Street and New Orleans Square Train Stations will be able to get up-close with the historic steam engines that have circled Disneyland park for decades, learn about these amazing machines firsthand from our own train engineers and even take a picture with an engine! Each engine will be accompanied by knowledgeable train engineers, who will share fun facts, details on how the engines operate, stories from the history of the Disneyland Railroad and more.
While the world-famous Jungle Cruise undergoes refurbishment early this year, the skippers will still share their stories, adventures and humor with Disneyland park guests in front of the attraction. Join them as they recount tales from their travels while the Jungle Navigation Company headquarters readies for reopening later this year.
Look for these special opportunities and more – including new, limited-time experiences aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia – throughout the year at Disneyland park!
It would be phenomenal if we could have a walk through of the Grand Canyon!!!
Will there be a continuation of the 24 hour long day at Disney World in 2016 & 2017? Me and the family are hoping so! We would love to plan a day for 2017 if there was going to be such a day again!
That’s awesome the trains will be available. I know my kids will miss riding on them, but seeing them up close will be a special treat. I’m looking forward to the Mark Twain and Columbia experiences, too. Not to mention whatever is worked out on Tom Sawyer Island. Hopefully it will still be a fun place for kids to romp and play with caves to climb through (though as an adult who has to chase after kids, slightly roomier ones would be great so maybe a grandparent could climb through with their kids as my mom’s knees and back can’t take them as they are)
Will the Lillie Belle be included in with the Engines?
If I were to guess, I would think that these experiences will be included with park admission.
Is this free to the general admission or are there additional fees you have to pay to experience this?
Anytime i have gone to a park, i avoid the fast rides and spend extra time watching and listening to the park guests, cast members and characters. Dead Men Tell no Tales.. but the park does. 60 years worth of stories are just waiting to unfold. the people behind the imagination, the creation, the magicians who made me feel like a kid again just 72 hours ago.
This is a neat way to handle things while stuff is closed for the time being.
@Christie The Mark Twain and Columbia will reopen after all the construction. They are just being closed temporarily because the northern portion of the Rivers of America has to be rerouted for the new construction. They will be back. 🙂
What a great way for guests to enjoy the attractions while they’re not in normal operating shape, great idea Disney!
I love this! Thank you for adding special touches while things are closed.
Very cool idea. I’m glad that the park will be adding little extra touches while so many attractions are closed.
So much stuff is closing for the year, It’s nice that it won’t just be abandoned. I tried several times to do the Tinder and came very close, but it was too hot for us mere mortals. Though this isn’t limited Time Magic (which was by far the best disneyland Campaign in recent years). It is nice that at least some effort is being put into patching up the holes that these attractions would normally leave if they were simply shut down.
What a great idea! Thank you so much for doing that for the guests!
Love this idea! When we went to epcot in December, we loved all the little stories each country would tell. This will definitely be an intimate way to experience Disney magic through someone else’s eyes!
It’s Limited-Time Magic!
Will the Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia ever sail again? Or is the new railroad going to interfere?
What a great idea! 🙂
So glad my son will be able to see the train still. It’s his favorite ride!
Jungle Cruise: closed January 11- April 2nd (reopens April 3rd)
Will the Lilly Belle be out with the engine?
Fabulous idea! I think that’s really great fo be able to still sort of experience the attractions in a different way while they’re closed. Thanks Disneyland!
How long will Jungle Cruise be down?
