Starting this week, young guests can embark on a quest to become honorary members of the Lion Guard in a new Disney’s Animal Kingdom adventure inspired by Disney Junior’s animated series “The Lion Guard.”

“The Lion Guard” follows Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala. Kion and his friends represent the Pride Lands’ as The Lion Guard, a group made up of the fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest and keenest of sight.

The new Lion Guard Adventure at Disney’s Animal Kingdom sends young explorers on a park-wide search for the five Lion Guard characters: Kion, the fierce leader of the Lion Guard; Bunga, a brave and fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a friendly and good-natured hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret.

The fun begins when guests pick up a “Lion Guard Adventure Map,” which are available in select merchandise locations. Kids search for character statues hidden in themed locations throughout the park that represent each animal. At each stop, there’s a Lion Guard banner and a sign with the character’s attribute, so you’re sure you’ve found the right place. Once all five character traits are discovered, cast members at Rafiki’s Planet Watch officially induct youngsters into the Lion Guard with a special pledge, fun activities, and a Lion Guard Button identifying them as honorary members. Rafiki also joins the newest inductees for a photo.

What do you think? Will you try this out next time you’re at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?

  • Sounds like a lot of fun! How much does this cost and what is the targeted age range? Will both a 4 year old and a 7 year old be entertained? We will make sure to check it out when we are there in 3 weeks!

    • It is complimentary!!!

  • We were able to experience it on Sunday and it was a BLAST! My three year old son is one of the biggest Lion Guard fans and hasn’t stopped talking about it since then. We searched for all the animals statues and then he did the pledge at Rafiki’s Planet Watch! I would suggest to get Photo Pass photographers near the statues for some picture fun! It was a great day at Animal Kingdom!

    • That’s a great review, thanks! I can’t wait to try it with my son. He won’t stop yelling “Lion Guard away!” and jumping off the couch at home.

  • Fun idea. The Lion Guard is a fun show with good lessons for kids, especially the episode “Never Judge a Hyena by its Spots.”

  • We like being a “dorky” family. Will they allow our 13 year old to do this?

    • Of course. It’s complimentary and open to everyone. I’m doing it. 🙂

  • Is this temporary or will it be around through the summer? We have 2 kids that LOVE the lion guard, but won’t be there until June!

  • This sounds like fun. Please tell me it doesn’t replace the Wilderness Explorers Activities??

  • We are taking my son to his first WDW trip for his 5th birthday. He wants to spend his actual birthday at Animal Kingdom. He loves loves loves the Lion Guard. Please say this will still be available in April?? Thank you in advance!

  • This looks great! We are big fans of the interactive adventures in the parks. My son was so proud when he completed his Wilderness Explorer’s book and that activity gave us such a wonderful, in depth look at Animal Kingdom. We can’t wait to try the Lion Guard! Thanks for this new, complimentary experience!

    • My son won’t stop with Wilderness Explorer’s – or SOTMK at Magic Kingdom, or Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure at Epcot. He loves them all.

  • My family can’t wait to try this adventure! Is the Wilderness Explorer program still underway at Animal Kingdom? My daughter has two more badges to earn and she hopes she can complete it when we visit later this year.

    • Yes, Wilderness Explorers is continuing – this does not replace that.

  • Both of my kids just LOVE the Lion Guard!! Hope its around when we come in April! Great job keeping it fun with exciting new games 🙂

  • My only comment is maybe the article shouldn’t focus on saying it’s for kids, as I think this sounds fun for me…LOL

Also, please bring some of these experiences to the Disneyland Resort. The free ones would be extremely popular here, especially with the Annual Passholders.

  • Christopher,
you make a good point. I know that I would certainty like to check this out myself.

I also agree that these kinds of experiences would be great for Disneyland Resort.

The Lion Guard could use some love at the Disneyland Resort.

  • Why is this only available for a ‘limited time’? We won’t be visiting until July.

  • I love the Lion Guard and I can’t wait to play it in November 2016! This is awesome for me!

  • As a group of adults who are kids at heart, we thoroughly enjoyed the scout adventure. So we’ll be sure to check this out too! You’d be surprised what you learn by doing these activities.

  • It looks like this is scheduled through April, but I’m hoping its so popular it is still around in May. We are taking our first Disney World trip and my 2 and 5 year old LOVE the Lion Guard.

  • I hope they will extend this thru August. When will they decide if they will extend this activity?

  • Is this still going on? I hope it on Sunday!! My little one is a MAJOR Lion Guard fan so I’ve be hoping it is still going on for our trip this Sunday!

  • I, like everyone else, would love to see the Lion Guard Adventure continue through the summer.

  • I was SO excited to see this pop up on the Blog. I raced over to the official site – no mention! Is it available through June 2016? Why doesn’t it show up under All Activities on the official park website. They typically list everything, even if it is closed for refurbishment or schedule unavailable. It used to be there, then disappeared. We’ve been scanning almost daily for it, but it’s not there any more. My 9 year old is a major Lion Guard fan and would love to play this (and Wilderness Explorers) when we go in June.

  • We arrive next week on the 17th. I believe they have taken this adventure away. Could you confirm this for me?

  • Is this year round? We are visiting in February 2017 and my daughter would love love love to do this!

  • Hi! Is the Lion Guard Adventure still going on? My son LOVES the show. We have a visit to Animal Kingdom planned in June so really hope this continues. Also any idea if the Lion Guard is part of the Meet the Characters in the parks?

  • Will this be continuing throughout summer 2016???
