Cruising the Mediterranean: Adventures in Palermo, Italy

Our voyages in Europe this summer have been giving Disney cruisers a look at stunning scenery, rich culture and amazing history in destinations throughout Norway, Iceland, the Baltic and the British Isles. Later this month, the Disney Magic will travel to Barcelona to kick off sun-soaked adventures in Spain, Italy and France. In my next blog series, I’ll give you a look at shore excursions in the Mediterranean, starting today with Palermo – the capital of the Italian island of Sicily.

Zingaro Nature Reserve Port Adventure with Disney Cruise Line

Boat Ride to Zingaro Park – The ultimate destination on this Port Adventure is the picturesque Zingaro Nature Reserve for swimming in Cala Marinella Cove. But the journey is just as exciting as the destination, with some of the most breathtaking views Sicily has to offer. After a drive through rolling hills with vineyards and olive trees, you’ll sail along the coast, discovering ancient villages, stunning bays and sandy beaches. Your afternoon concludes with a visit to the seaside resort village of San Vito Lo Capo for a traditional southern Italian lunch and free time to stroll the charming town.

Sicilian Farm Port Adventure with Disney Cruise Line

A Day on the Farm – Another family-friendly adventure gives you the opportunity for a unique cultural experience at a Sicilian farm. You’ll learn how to make Italian bread, process cheese and milk cows during interactive demonstrations that allow children to participate. Your visit to Villa Dafne also includes a traditional Sicilian lunch and free time to wander the scenic farmland or go for a refreshing dip in the pool.

Temple Ruins at Segesta Port Adventure with Disney Cruise Lines

Erice and Segesta – The first stop on this tour of ancient cities is Segesta, which reportedly was founded more than 2,500 years ago. Here you’ll explore stunning 5th-century structures including an amazingly preserved temple and an equally impressive theater. Next up, you’ll travel to Trapani to ascend high in the sky aboard a cable car to the Sicilian town of Erice. This medieval village offers sweeping views of Trapani and the Aegadian Islands. Following a walking tour through the narrow cobblestone lanes, you’ll enjoy a traditional southern Italian lunch overlooking the picturesque gulf.
