Disneyland Park Guests Get a Peek at New Star Wars-Themed Land

In April, we celebrated the official groundbreaking of Star Wars-themed lands coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, and beginning today, Disneyland park guests can get a glimpse of this exciting and immersive experience. A new image has been unveiled on the fence along Big Thunder Trail in Frontierland – one of the entry points to this never-before-seen planet in the Star Wars galaxy – revealing more about what guests will find in this all-new land.

Nestled between towering spires of rock, this thriving port contains a seemingly familiar architecture of markets, landing zones and buildings. Click here for a larger version of the image above. Look closely and you may find hints of some of the thrilling experiences that are coming – like the Millennium Falcon peeking out of one of the cargo bays, marking the location where guests will get the opportunity to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

The 14-acre land will be the largest-ever single-themed land expansion at Disneyland Resort. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog – we’ll continue to bring you updates as we learn more about this planet, as well as the citizens, aliens and droids who populate it.

  • Looking forward to seeing the mural! So excited for Star Wars Land to open!

  • Will there be a chance to win a visit?

  • I would hope the final product does more to mask Star Wars Land from the perspective of people riding along Rivers of America. The changes in rockwork from the earlier concepts to make it seem a little more reminiscent of Big Thunder Mountain is great for long distance, but I’m wondering if the treeline on the coast will be enough to mask the spaceport’s buildings.

  • Such an amazing piece !

  • So exciting! I can envision how the towering spires will blend in with the landscape of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Frontierland.

  • Hi Erin, is that keel boat depicted a set piece, artist embellishment, or is there a plan for the attraction to actually return? I realize how optimistic this question is and that the piece is artist concept only (the Falcon’s radar dish is round instead of the ‘current’ rectangular model, for example). Thanks!

  • Now what’s that ol’ Keelboat doing in the picture? :y I kid I kid, looks like it’s going to be very well hidden from the Train so no cricked necks once you go past the bend. All I have to say is, please put something in those tunnels if it gets too dark. You guys might have lights for when you work but some people can’t stand being in darkness that’s so dark you can’t see your hands in front of your face.

  • Will the WDW version look the same?

  • Looks awesome.

Erin, is there any hope that the Blue Sky Cellar at California Adventure will finally be opened again so that guests that can an in depth preview of the Star Wars-themed land?

  • Erin, has there been any talks or thoughts of doing a dining experience like the star wars weekends had? A buffet (like goofy kitchen) with star wars characters roaming around for pictures along with star wars themed food. PLEASE BRING THE BLUE MILK (ice cream ) to dl.

  • Looks great!
    Who did the artwork?

  • Really hope the rides would be physical ones and not just another screen ride like star tours or soarin

  • Reminds me of the discovery bay design

  • Will Tomorrowland still have Startours and the other starwars attractions or will it be moved to starwarsland? Starwars is actually in the past…. you know a long long time ago. I’m very excited for this park!!!

  • I know we will need to wait until it’s finished, but this artwork makes it look as though you will see some of the tallest parts of the buildings from the water. Is it the imageneers plan to hide that from river traffic view? Or is the Rivers of America going to become intergalactic, I wonder….

  • Erin is there finally a projected date for the grand of Star Wars land or the Disneyland Railroad?

  • One small correction. Groundbreaking first took place in January at Disneyland.

  • Really looks like a awesome addition to Disneyland!

  • Cannot wait for this incredible addition to Disneyland Resort and WDW. Erin, I know there is no official opening date, but do you have an estimation?

  • Looks great – bring back the sky tram!

  • Planning on coming again in 2017 late summer, any word on star wars land opening?
