As we just announced, night time at Disneyland park will get even brighter with the return of Main Street Electrical Parade early next year! Twenty years since it last glowed down Main Street, U.S.A., at Disneyland park, this “spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination” will return for a limited-time encore engagement.

Main Street Electrical Parade at Disneyland Park

The quintessential Disney Parks nighttime parade, the Main Street Electrical Parade began at Disneyland park in 1972, shining brightly in the memories of thousands of Disneyland park guests until the end of its initial run in 1996. It returned to the Disneyland Resort as Disney’s Electrical Parade, bringing magical Disney stories to Disney California Adventure park from 2001 until 2010, when it crossed the country to begin its most recent run at Walt Disney World Resort.

Before its half-million tiny lights return to illuminate the imaginations of a whole new generation of Disneyland park guests, there is still time enjoy the experience this beloved favorite inspired – “Paint the Night” parade.

‘Paint the Night’ Parade at Disneyland Park

“Paint the Night” parade will continue nightly performances, just before “Disneyland Forever” fireworks, through September 5 as part of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. And I’m excited to share today that this popular parade will return on select nights during the holiday season later this year. Be sure to keep an eye on the entertainment calendar at Disneyland.com for performance dates and times.

  • “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds—The Main Street Electrical Parade!

  • Will Paint the Night be performed at Disney California Adventure then?

  • Does this mean Walt Disney World will be getting Paint the Night?

    • At this time, there are no plans to bring “Paint the Night” to Walt Disney World Resort.

  • Wait…if Paint the Night is returning in the holiday season, does that mean both parades will be kept in Disneyland?

    • Future plans have not yet been determined, but at this time there are no plans to bring “Paint the Night” to Walt Disney World Resort.

  • And does this mean WDW will be getting a new nighttime parade by any chance?

  • While I wish Paint the Night would stay forever — it’s seriously the best — getting MSEP and some bonus showings of PtN is such fantastic news. These parades make me so freaking happy, it’s just ridiculous.

  • So are there plans for WDW a to have a nighttime parade after October 9th?

  • When you say holiday season does that mean that the Christmas parade will only be presented once a day and that the park won’t be fully decorated again? As much as I like the PTN parade I really don’t want to see the holidays be minimalized again this year!

    • We’ll have information to share on Holidays at the Disneyland Resort soon.

  • Any teasers for what nighttime entertainment will be at Magic Kingdom in WDW to replace MSEP? That’s quite a lot of people that will be waiting on lines in attractions rather than watching the parade. I’m sure it will have an impact on the length of the lines.

  • While I absolutely enjoy Paint the Night I am WAY more excited to see Main Street Electrical Parade return!!! (just as long as it is in its entirety and not the chopped down version that was in Ca Adven.) There is just no comparison to the two parades (PTN and MSEP). they both in their own awesomeness. I grew up on MSEP and I have to say the I was a bit disappointed when I first saw PTN as I had seen all the hype and advertisments that it was being touted as Disneys NEW MSEP. But once I saw I saw it in its entirety, I loved it and enjoyed it for what it is. And I too will miss it, however I just CANNOT wait for the REAL MSEP to hurry up and show itself once again at Disneyland!!!

  • I’m wondering about the “last chance” to see Paint the Night. Does that mean that the parade is permanently leaving Disneyland after the holiday season?

    • Future plans for “Paint the Night” have not yet been determined.

  • This makes me so happy! I love the electrical parade! I grew up with it. I used to have the VHS of it from the final season. Great call on bringing it back to DLR!

  • Any info on when we will hear about WDW nighttime parades future?

  • I sincerely hope this is genuinely for a limited time and that Paint the Night will be back to full time shortly after or by the summer. It’s a far stronger, more advanced parade.

  • I am so excited to have the opportunity to experience the Main Street Electrical Parade where it first debuted! Thank you so much Disney! Since this is a limited time engagement, does that mean Paint the Night will return after the Main Street Electrical Parade concludes its run?

    • Future plans for “Paint the Night” have not yet been determined.

  • Here’s hoping Paint the Night will get to play sometime during Nov 12-15!

  • Can you tell me then we are heading to Disneyland mid October, what parades and fireworks then will be on for that time? Paint the night looks awesome and so would love to see that with the kids, we saw the electrical parade at disneyworld last year and many years ago i saw the electrical parade at Disneyland which is such an iconic parade.

    • The entertainment calendar at Disneyland.com updates six weeks in advance. I’d recommend checking there for performance schedules.

  • Do we know the date that the MSEP will start at Disneyland?

    • We’ll share a date as soon as we can.

  • I truly am shedding tears of joy. Dreams really do come true and I really doubted this dream would ever come true. The Main Street Electrical Parade is returning to Disneyland! The original parade that started it all at the original park that started it all. Since 1972 this very parade has spanned 4 decades and 3 continents. I will be there to welcome home my all-time favorite Disney parade and to in share in the glow of this glittering Disney classic! Disneyland let’s celebrate the magic, the music, and the memories of the Main Street Electrical Parade!

  • Paint the night is by far the best parade I have ever seen! electric light parade is nice and I enjoyed it but there is no comparison to paint the night. I hope it finds a place in one of the parks at DL or WDW.

  • I love this parade! Do you know what dates “early next year”are? My family and I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit Disneyland almost every year for the last 21 years. This is one of the first parades I saw with my 4 year old son at the time. We were sad when it was moved to WDW…. last year I was fortunate enough to be able to visit WDW and this was one of my MUST do’s while I was there. My son was not able to join the family at that time, but we just booked our 2017 family vacation to Disneyland for February, this will be the first of many for my grandson. I really hope the parade will be there then, what a great memory for myself, son and now his son to be able to share.

    • We will share a date as soon as we can. Stay tuned!

  • What will replace the parade at night in,the Magic Kingdom? Is the electrical parade going to be completely retired?

  • For Holiday are we meaning just Christmas? Is it wishful thinking to ask if maybe holiday season also includes Halloween?

    • “Paint the Night” performance dates and times will be listed on the entertainment calendar at Disneyland.com

  • Disneyland holds a very special place in my heart & the hearts of my family. Thank you for everything that you bring to us each & everyday! I’m very excited to hear that we will be getting MSEP back for a limited time! My daughter was 2 when she saw it for the first time in DCA, she’s now 10! I have fond memories of seeing it as a child as well! With that said, we have absolutely fallen in love with PTN! It’s brought many magical memories to our family! I hope it stays at Disneyland! It’s perfect & well deserved at our beautiful little park here in California! It just seems too short lived & definitely can hold up past the Diamond Celebration! To think it would leave us is heartbreaking. Please please keep this nighttime parade for years to come! It’s so special!!

  • I remember the Main Street Electrical Parade it was great, back in its day. But the Paint the Night is AMAZING! WE will be in Disneyland Sept. 12-16. My kids and I are sooo sad we will miss Paint the Night! The MSEP ran for 20+ years. PTN has only run for just over 1 year! Why pull it sooo soon?? Please, please Disney, run it longer!

  • Any ideas on how limited? It would break my heart not to make it for this, but we are expecting a baby and will not be a me to return till spring 2018:-(

  • I just hope it will be the weekend of October 1-2. What is the ETA of a schedule release date?

    • Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog – we’ll bring you an update as soon as we can.

  • While I hope Paint the Night is not “glowing away” yet, I just wish that we could get the “Main Street Electrical Parade” back not “Disney’s Electrical Parade”. I would love to see the Blue Fairy once again. The version that is running at Magic Kingdom is just not the same.

  • Does this mean the light bulbs and popcorn container I bought during the last time the Electric Parade will be in Disneyland are no longer valid

  • Glad to have it back to Disneyland Park!!! Would love to see the Blue Fairy return to leading the parade.

  • While this is cool news, I am very sorry to see Paint the Night go away. It *really* needs to come back to Disneyland at some point.

Paint the Night is a 21st century Electric Parade, and I really love it. Bringing back the classic Electrical parade to Disneyland seems like a step backwards in terms of technology and creativity.

  • Will the old dragon be part of the parade? The one from 1972? I always loved that dragon and the Blue Fairy!

  • This is the most exciting news I have heard in a long time. The Electrical Parade is my family’s favorite parade. We are already making plans to come and see it as often as possible. Thank you for bringing this sparkling classic back to Disneyland!

  • I really hope there is a night time parade for us to enjoy for our trip sept 12-15. It’s one of my sons favorite parts of going to Disneyland.

  • We arrive September 22 for 6 nights (from Australia, so we plan months in advance). Is there any chance PTN will be on, I’m guessing that’s too early for “later in the year” and I’m guessing “holiday season” means Christmas? (different terminology here!).

I really really want PTN for our trip!

  • How long will the “limited engagement” last? We’re planning a family trip November 2017 (for our daughter’s birthday and 1st visit). My parents are joining us. If we could all experience this parade together- AMAZING!! Our 3 kids are THRILLED we may have a chance to see it in person.
Will it run for through the end of 2017??

  • Oh please let Paint the Night be showing October 22-26. That’s when we are there as part of my husbands 50th birthday trip. Saw it last year and I agree…best parade since original MSEP. Just loved it and was hoping to see it again! So much fun and truly amazing! With no Fantasmic and fireworks so iffy with the weather I’m hoping to at least catch Paint the Night! PLEASE listen to your fans…we love this parade!

  • We will be in the park September 6th. Any word on what fireworks or nighttime shows there will be that week? My 2 & 4 year old will be heartbroken if we can’t see some fireworks. I was lucky enough to see PTN in January with my friends and had shown them clips. They are really sad about missing it.

    • Amanda – The schedule for September 6 can be found at Disneyland.com. I recommend taking them to see “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure park, which is scheduled to show that night.

  • So completely heart-broken this parade will not be at WDW for my first trip to Disney World ever (age 43) this October. My girls and I (ages 7 and 9) have heard so much about how awesome this parade is and have watched youtube videos. It was definitely one of our must-sees. We were so looking forward to seeing it );

  • I hope the audio and drum unit will be restored to say “Main Street Electrical Parade”

  • My husband surprised me with a trip to Disneyland on my 60th birthday. We will be there September 12-14. It was a wonderful idea to celebrate my 60th on Disneyland’s 60th. Now we find out the 60th celebration with the fireworks and parade ends on September 5th. So disappointed. Please extend the celebration. Thank you!

  • So excited to see MSEP return home! I truly wish it would become a permanent fixture.

  • I truly hope there is SOME sort of plan for MK to have a night time spectacular! It would be awfully sad to have completely dark evenings–especially since there is a premium price for this park.

  • Please do NOT tell me this means WDW will be losing the Main Street Electrical again? This is my absolute favorite nighttime parade and I will be heartbroken if it goes away again!!!

  • This almost makes me forget about Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy.

    Almost.

  • No more Paint the Night?! NOOOOOOOOOOO! Oh man this is the saddest news! I hope it is brought back somewhere somehow!

  • Oh no, Hope we don’t miss it in October.

  • Aww man! We’re going to Disney World next May and was really hoping to see MSEP! Since we are going to Disney World next year we may not get back to Disneyland til 2018. It would be nice since it’s sadly leaving Disney World that they put in a good replacement for us to see on our vacation next year. Also, that the MSEP would last long enough for us to see it again in Disneyland.

  • Please give some hope to those of us who primarily visit WDW that there will be a nighttime parade at the Magic Kingdom this year!!

  • As much as I loved the Electrical Parade when I was a kid, I feel like it is a little outdated now. Paint the Night is the perfect updated version and by far the best parade I’ve ever seen from Disney so it’s upsetting to know that it will be going away soon. I wish it would become a permanent part of Disneyland’s entertainment schedule.
