A huge transformation is underway now at Disney California Adventure park, as The Collector’s Fortress takes shape at the site of what is now the Hollywood Tower Hotel. It will be home to a new adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, and today we have a detailed look at what the fortress will look like when the attraction opens summer 2017.

The model pictured here was created by Walt Disney Imagineering to guide the transformation currently taking place on the exterior of the attraction. Every shade and detail you see here will be replicated in full size, as designers, builders and artists work to bring The Collector’s realm to life here at the Disneyland Resort.
This “warehouse, fortress-like power plant” (as described here by Joe Rohde, Creative Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering) is designed to be intimidating and imposing, but also shimmering and regal. It will be the ideal location for The Collector to secure and show off his most prized acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Featuring characters from the blockbuster films, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is an epic new adventure combining the familiar, breathtaking free-fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects, including music inspired by the popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” film soundtrack. Guests will experience a variety of randomized ride experiences, so you never know which adventure you will get!
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opens at Disney California Adventure park summer 2017. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog as we reveal more about the story of this new attraction, re-introduce you to the characters from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films and take you behind the scenes as this comically high-energy, rocking new adventure comes to life.

When we saw Guardians of the Galaxy, my son said, “They need to make a ride out of the jail break scene!” We are so looking forward to riding this when complete.
We will miss Tower of Terror too, but appreciate your commitment to investing in new experiences.
I’ve heard much conjecture, but does anyone know why this isn’t being done concurrently at Disney Studios………..or at least if that’s something we on the east coast can hope to see being announced soon?
ok…..got it. i see what the building will look like. what will the actual ride be like?
Any photos of what the attraction exterior will look like at night?
Looks pretty cool. Tower Of Terror was my favorite ride and I will miss it, but I am not against Re-Imaging existing attractions. I’m just worried that the final product will clash with the old Hollywood theme around it, but I trust the Imagineeers know what they are doing.
This looks amazing – I can’t wait! And look forward to the additional updates!
Please tell me that a certain Duck, not Donald, that’s in the movie will have an appearance. Looks pretty cool!
The look of this building is amazing, really hope to see all this detail come to life and the lighting at night will look awesome on all that piping.
Hopefully we see some concept art on what the rest of Marvel land will look like
There is obviously a grand amount of great things from Marvel that could be made into attractions for a Disney park. Why hasn’t a whole new “Marvel” theme park been imagineered?
Although I’d really liked to go on this ride, I just don’t feel comfortable with the current seating. A harness or something more secure and to hold onto would be much, much better. I love these kinds of rides, but I just don’t feel safe with the current seat belt or bar.
This looks absolutely incredible! Can’t wait!
I also can’t wait until all the people saying nothing will beat ToT come back and tell everyone they knew it would blow everyone’s mind. I just want remind this is Disney we’re talking about here…when do they ever NOT make something absolutely amazing?? Especially lately.
I say bring it on! Love the whole idea.
That model looks pretty cool!
Yes, it’s a shame to lose Tower or Terror, but this new attraction will be reusing the same ride system and structure, so it won’t be so bad. I always trying to be open to new things. Change is not necessarily a bad thing.
Love the model! How exciting the project is getting!
Man, I really hope this is as good as the Twilight Zone theme. Not sure how it can be, soooo….trusting in the Imagnieers to not let me down.
While much of my family is lamenting the loss of ToT, I am really looking forward to the new attraction elements. Thanks for the preview!
