Guests looking for a bit of luck will find it aplenty at Disney parks around the world during this year’s bountiful Chinese New Year celebrations. From Shanghai and Hong Kong to the California coast, there’s no shortage of good fortune to be found.

Shanghai Disney Resort is celebrating its first Chinese New Year with a series of one-of-a-kind activities, including a drum ceremony in the Gardens of Imagination, a dragon dance performance and a special New Year blessing projected onto the Enchanted Storybook Castle at the end of each day. More than 50 limited-time items and new cuisine options are available across the resort in honor of the holiday. Guests will even find four new themed trains along Shanghai Metro Line 11 with decorations inspired by traditional customs and classic Disney elements.

At Hong Kong Disneyland, guests will find the Year of the Rooster out in full force with decorative displays throughout the park. Favorite characters – including God of Fortune Goofy – are on hand in spectacular new costumes to dole out good fortunes, and dozens of new menu items and festive gifts are available throughout the resort. Starting January 28, each guest will also receive a special lai see bestowing wishes for the new year.

Disney California Adventure park is pulling out all the stops for its annual Lunar New Year Celebration, expanded this year to 17 days of festivity. Stunning décor sets the stage for an impressive array of live performances, indulgent cuisine options, commemorative merchandise and character greetings. Guests can also witness ”Hurry Home,” a new “World of Color” pre-show that tells the tale of a journey home for Lunar New Year, inspired by traditional Chinese paper cut-out style animation.

No matter where you are in the world, good fortune and a touch of Disney magic abound to ring in Chinese New Year. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more on what’s in store at each of our parks!

  • I’d like to see something at Disney World as well, but what about Tokyo Disneyland Resort? I know they had some decorations out on New Year’s Day as well as special merchandise.

  • I agree. I am disappointed that there are no Lunar New Year plans for WDW, especially since EPCOT seems to be about sharing cultures! At least Mushu could visit!

  • What about Walt Disney World?????

  • So what about at EPCOT where you actually have a China Pavilion? Anything special there to commemorate the Chinese New Year?
