Disney Showcase can be found on the corner of Main Street, U.S.A., across the avenue from the Emporium. Opened in 1989, this location carries both seasonal merchandise and a rich history.
As offerings change with the seasons, along with the shop’s decor, you can find something special throughout the year. Costumes hang during Halloween Time, and ornaments deck the walls during Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. You will also find the Disney Showcase Annex within the shop year-round, which is the only location in Disneyland park that offers embroidery. If you’re looking to customize items like blankets, kitchen towels and T-shirts with a name or sweet message, this spot is a must-visit.
This classic building also houses the Main Street Hotel, a hot spot for Victorian residents wishing to immerse themselves in the hustle and bustle of an early 20th century downtown. Talk about a prime view of horse-drawn carriages, motor vehicles and town performers!
Before Disney Showcase occupied this corner of Main Street, U.S.A., the famous Wurlitzer Music Hall once stood in its place from opening day until 1968. Yes, there was once a time where you could purchase a piano or organ at Disneyland! Daily concerts also entertained guests in this very shop. The Wurlitzer Music Hall transitioned to “The Legacy of Walt Disney” in 1970 and later became “Disneyland Presents a Preview of Coming Attractions” in 1973. Currently, my favorite shop is Disneyana…I’m always hoping to find something new or a rerelease of Olszewski sculptures of the park. As a young adult, my favorite was the Coming Attractions Preview. I could spend hours looking at the detailed models of both attractions that came to be, and others that never left the design stage. Unless I’m losing my mind, I could have sworn that the Big Thunder model had a Mesa wall behind it with the DLRR running just in front it with a label on the wall that said “future Western River Expedition”. I’ve never found any other evidence to suggest this was ever considered for Disneyland. Does anyone remember that?
Disneyana of course haha. Love all the exclusive items, I never walk out without at least a medallion!
My earliest childhood memories of Disneyland trips involve stops at the Emporium. My grandmother bought me my first Mickey Mouse watch and a giant Mickey Mouse wall clock at the Emporium. Every Disneyland trip ended with a stop on Main Street to get a storybook, too. I couldn’t get enough of Disney books!
These days I still love the Emporium, but I also like to explore Disneyana and Disney Showcase. The China Closet was a favorite as well. And I got some of my best Disney watches at the old New Century shop (which later turned into Fortuosity).
I especially love the Main Street shops’ window displays during Halloween Time and the Holidays, and even during Springtime. They are so festive and in the spirit of the seasons.
Without a doubt, the Emporium. Growing up in CA, I used to shop there at Disneyland since I can remember. Now that I live closer to the Magic Kingdom on my first trip I was worried about shopping with the Emporium and was so thrilled that it’s there also. I just go on shopping sprees in that store
Thanks for this look at one of my favorites on Main St., USA. I sure miss the Coming Attractions preview. Those models of Splash Mountain and Big Thunder long ago created a lot of excitement to return to Disneyland.
