Star Wars-Themed Lands Come To Life as Construction Progresses at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts

We’re excited to share an update today on the progress of the Star Wars-themed lands being created at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts!

As you may know, these two new immersive lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life and where guests will find themselves in the middle of the action.

We’re also creating two incredible new signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

With so much activity across our 14-acre construction sites as this new world is created, we wanted to show you how things are shaping up in this exclusive video – and you may not believe what you’re looking AT-AT.

As Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced last month, our Star Wars-themed lands are scheduled to open in 2019. There will be more exciting updates to share in the future as work progresses on each of these galactic lands. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for the latest.

  • Can anyone tell me when in Summer 2019 Star Wars will open. I’m trying to book a large family vacation and I’m currently aiming at beginning of June but I’d hate to book if the land isn’t opening till July?

  • Does anyone know if they are planning to offer bricks/pavers in this area?

  • I really want to go with my kids during summer. Will the park be open in summer 2019? I’d like to know if I need to plan for 2019 or 2020.

  • I live in england and am looking to come to orlando when this is built but is there any way to tell the difference between orlando & california as im loving watching the lands unfold. Im guessing that each land is being built identically and so will the time structure.but im more interested in seeing orlando unfold

  • 2019!?! Really?? Can’t wait

  • This is AWESOME!!!

  • It is always nice to find an excuse to start planning future trips to the parks!

  • Are the two lands going to be identical or are they two different planets?

    • Anna, each of these 14-acre lands will take guests to the same never-before-seen planet.

  • Love this! How tall is the AT-AT that is currently at DHS?

  • Yeah, I messed up. I came here directly from the WDW Facebook page. Both are going to look really nice in their respective parks. Cannot wait to visit in a few years.

  • My kids are so excited about this! Can’t wait!

  • Yes, as others have said, this post clearly mentioned *both* Walt Disney World and Disneyland Land Resorts.

This video is indeed from construction at the Disneyland Resort in California.

  • I’ve been waiting for this since 1977! My “inner-child” will finally be able to live his Star Wars dream at WDW in 2019! Keep it up gang – it’s looking awesome!

    • Thanks, Michael!

  • It clearly says Disney World and Disneyland. The shots are from Disneyland because they are farther along in the construction, and have some almost recognizable structures to show off.

  • John — the title and the blog itself clearly stated that it was showing updates for BOTH Disneyland and Disney World.

  • You are using shots from Disneyland (Thunder Mountain and Matterhorn in background) for a Walt Disney World promo?

    • Construction is progressing at both Resorts
