Twenty-five years ago, the Rivers of America at Disneyland park became the stage for the colorful tableau of Mickey Mouse’s imagination with the opening of the classic nighttime spectacular, “Fantasmic!” When it returns to Disneyland park this summer, “Fantasmic!” will still be the treasured Disneyland park experience guests have loved for 25 years – complete with its original fanfare and theme song – but all taken to brilliant new heights!
Upon its return, “Fantasmic!” will feature new magic, including new mist screens that will combine with innovative, state-of-the-art projection technology for brighter and more vibrant visuals than ever before. The show will also feature new scenes inspired by Disney animated classics such as “Aladdin”; one of the dazzling new scenes finds Aladdin and Jasmine floating over a bed of fog on their flying carpet during “A Whole New World.”
We’ll have more to share on this returning classic soon – including an opening date – so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog.

How long has it been gone??
On April 17, 2017, it was announced that new scenes based on Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled, and Pirates of the Caribbean would be added to Fantasmic! It was also announced that Mickey Mouse will be appearing in more scenes throughout the show. Fantasmic! will reopen on July 17, 2017.
Will it return by June 14, 15,16,17,18,19 those are the days we will be there?
Will it return by July 23 with the dining package, Erin?
I’m headed to DLR on 6/16, any idea if F! will be open around that time?
I have to be honest, I could really care less if the Peter Pan segment is gone. The fact of the matter is, both the Columbia sailing ship and the Mark Twain river boat will still be used in the show, and that’s all that really matters to me.
The two things that I hope will remain (and aren’t in the WDW version) are the Peter Pan and Pinocchio segments. I’ve heard rumors that both are gone, and I hope that’s not true.
Will “Fantasmic!” be updated at Disney World, as well?
I hope the Pink Elephants on Parade segment will remain.
Glad to see it come back, but as other’s have mentioned, actual dates would be very helpful whenever possible! 😉
I find myself hoping that the POTC mod is only temporary with the new movie this year (though the movie will likely be out of theaters by the time Fantasmic returns – unless Disney is going to surprise us and open Fantasmic in the next 2 months).
I wholeheartedly agree that the Peter and Hook segment using the Columbia is one of the best parts of Fantasmic. (Actually (IMHO) either of the elements with the Columbia or Mark Twain are a large part of what makes the show at DLR seem to be on a so much grander scale than the version of Fantasmic at DHS in FL)
Erin,
I need dates. I need facts. I can’t wait any longer, bring Fantasmic back!
How funny. Last night while watching the fireworks after coming out of the haunted mansion I literally turned to my wife and said, I wonder when Fantasmic is coming back? I love that show! I seriously thought it wouldn’t be back until Star wars land was opened. So glad I’ll be able to catch it and experience it with my son for the first time! He loves the fireworks so I know he’ll love that (He’s only 7 months, the cutie). Funny… I’ve been an AP member since 12′ and have never seen the world of color, off topic but the laser projection made me think about that haha.
Will the annual pass holder fantasmic limited tshirt make an appearance online to coincide with the tshirt that is available on disneystore.com
Will there be a new CD soundtrack release as well?
Should I assume dining package info will come with the opening date?
Going to miss Fantasmic when we head South to Disneyland next week 🙁 3rd trip with no Fantasmic… so it looks like we’re going to have to plan a trip for early Autumn and catch the updated show. Always planning next trip before we even fly to this trip…
We need the Villains segment from DHS’ version…plus more Villains! 🙂
Although I usually try not to be a negative nancy… I, too, was very saddened to her that a Pirates segment is replacing the Peter Pan/Hook segment. I understand the need to update shows with newer characters for the younger crowd, but not at the expense of one of the most memorable parts of Fantasmic. They made a bad call on that one. My kids would rather see and hear Pan vs Hook than Jack Sparrow any day.
I’m so glad that Fantasmic will be getting some updates.
The show debuted in 1992. It’s about time that show was updated with new segments.
Yay! SO excited about this visual ~ I really miss the Aladdin show ~
Sorry to inform you all of this, but Peter Pan will not be returning. As of right now, Pirates of the Caribbean is taking its place. The scene with the snake on the stage slithering around has also been replaced with a Lion King segment (According to sources). Sorry!
Yay! I miss Jasmine, Aladdin, and the Flying Carpet from the stage show at California Adventure.
Will the main story remain the same? Mickey vs the Disney Villains?
As a personal health care companion once said, “I have some concerns”. Fantasmic! is seriously the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Disneyland. I watch it every time I go ever since I was a kid, I listen to the soundtrack all the time, it’s my favorite! Will Aladdin be the only new addition to the show? Of all the things in the parks, this is the ONE thing I would like to be as true to the original with as little additions and alterations as possible.
I cant wait to see Peter Pan and Captain Hook chase each other around the Columbia again!
Why post this today if you’re not ready to announce a return date?
Yes!!! I cannot wait for the river and all of the attractions to return.
