Sketches From The Park: Plein Air in Adventureland

Each month I will be sketching from the field or Plein Air, as it’s called in the art world, from a new, inspiring location in our Disney Parks and then sharing my sketches and experiences here on the blog each time. Today, I continue my “Sketches from the Park” series as I started off this early morning with a watercolor sketch session from Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park.

I have loved Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room since I was young. So, naturally, I sat down across from the majestic grass hut right away and started to block in my sketch with my ink pen. There is nothing like Adventureland in the morning – one of my favorite places to be. As the sun started to strike the top of the roof, I started to lay in some watercolor. I was just trying to capture a little of the feeling and colors of my early morning here in Adventureland.

Next, it was over to the Tiki statues for one more quick sketch before I headed off to start my day.

I hope you enjoy the art and keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for my next sketch from a new location next time in our “Sketches from the Park” series. And be sure to check out last month’s sketch I did from World Showcase at Epcot. See ya next time!

  • Will these be available for purchase? (Fingers crossed)

  • I would love to do that! You’ve inspired me to bring a few copics next time I’m at the park.

  • Sounds like fun! Really like the sketches Will and look forward to seeing you at ART OF DISNEY GALLERY at Disney Springs soon I hope!

  • Wonderful for visitors to see an artist creating and wish this could be expanded as an experience for others, to create art in the parks with a Disney artist, similar to The Art Institute, but in The Field.

  • Sketches from the Park is my favorite item on the Blog, I look forward to seeing more in the future.
