My sister and I waited in line the day before the grand opening and slept on the ground next to the ticket booths so we could get in. We were some of the first people to walk down the new Buena Vista Street. We will never forget waiting 7 hours to ride Radiator Springs Racers. At least we can say we’ve slept overnight at Disneyland and rode Radiator Springs on its opening day.
I was there on opening day. We had booked our trip months in advance. Carsland has been scheduled to open in April of 2012. When the opening kept getting delayed I was very nervous. Our trip could not be rescheduled. Then we received news that Carsland was opening during our trip. What a relief that was. The Carsland area was so crowded there was an hours long wait to get a Fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers. It was so exciting to be one of the very first to see this new area.
I wasn’t there opening day, but I’ve been there almost once month since then. Cars Land neon is the best! Once it was raining ☔️ during the day. I wish they could have turned all the lights then… photos of the reflections would have been awesome.
We were also for opening day. It was our first family trip to Disneyland and we added an extra day to our ticket to stick around for the opening. We waited 2 hours in line in Downtown Disney to get through the gates at DCA. It went by fast though and everyone we encountered was in a good mood. It was packed and we didn’t even try to get in line for any rides. We just enjoyed the atmosphere, took some photos and got some cool opening day merch. I love my Cars Land t-shirt. Then it was off to Huntington beach. It’s a great memory for us.
I was there on opening day. My son loved Cars at the time and I knew that would be a special memory for him for the rest of his life. It was SOOOOO crowded but it was worth it. We got stuck on Radiator Springs Racers – right at the start of the race – and they had to walk us out of the ride. That was honestly kind of fun – we got to see almost everything in the ride up close. And I’ve been on it many times since and have never gotten stuck again!
