Disney MaxPass to Debut July 19 at the Disneyland Resort

We are excited to announce that Disney MaxPass will launch July 19 at the Disneyland Resort! Disney MaxPass will help guests to maximize their experience at the Disneyland Resort by providing unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from the day, and by enabling the convenience of mobile Disney FASTPASS booking and redemption times while in the theme parks through the Disneyland App. If guests are not already registered for a Disney account, registration is fast and simple. Download the app and follow the prompts to register for an account.

Disney MaxPass will be offered for an introductory price of $10 a day. Guests may purchase Disney MaxPass when they purchase their ticket, or as an add-on through the Disneyland App once they enter either theme park. Disneyland Resort Annual Passholders also will have the option of purchasing Disney MaxPass for the life of their current passport for $75. Signature Plus passholders will receive Disney MaxPass at no additional cost, as part of their annual passport entitlement.

Since we announced Disney MaxPass in January, we have added two additional Disney FASTPASS locations at Toy Story Mania and Matterhorn Bobsleds, bringing the total number of attractions to 16. Guests will continue to have the option of Disney FASTPASS service at no additional cost by obtaining a Disney FASTPASS return time with their park admission ticket at attraction Disney FASTPASS kiosks.

The introduction of Disney MaxPass is part of our ongoing commitment to providing guests with opportunities to customize their experiences and make it even easier than ever to create unforgettable memories. Watch for another Disney Parks Blog post soon for an example of how Disneyland Resort guests can start enjoying Disney MaxPass on July 19.

Guests are strongly advised to check the day’s FASTPASS ticket availability and other Park details before purchasing Disney MaxPass or using a Park ticket with Disney MaxPass as FASTPASS tickets for your preferred attractions may not be available at the time of purchase or use. FASTPASS tickets are limited and availability is not guaranteed. FASTPASS tickets may be obtained only while you are in the Parks and may not be available for entertainment through Disney MaxPass. An experience that does not have Disney FASTPASS availability at a kiosk will not be available using Disney MaxPass. The Disney MaxPass benefit will expire at the end of the day or when the Passport it is associated with expires, as applicable. Disney MaxPass is nonrefundable, nontransferable, may not be redeemed for cash and is subject to other restrictions.   • Great feature! But it’s extremely disappointing that Signature Passholders (who already have the photopass benefit) have to pay the same amount as other passholders to upgrade to the Maxpass benefit.

  • I agree with the other comments. As a Signature Passholder, I am very disappointed we are being asked to pay the same $75 for half a service we already have, essentially paying twice for our photopass. My family will definitely not be paying extra for this. Hopefully Disney will reconsider their stance on Signature passes.

  • I have the Deluxe annual pass that is due to expire in 2 months… Can I just buy the daily MaxPass instead of the whole year?

  • If I’m reading the fine print correctly, you will have to use your own data and there will not be free WiFi available? So could end up costing significantly more with data and roaming charges?

  • Will this take the place of the current DAS system, thereby forcing individuals with disabilities to pay for fastpasses or the current DAS system remain the same?

  • So basically, since those of us with signature passes already have the photopass access, we’re being asked to pay more for maxpass than the lower tiers? Am I getting that right?

  • Have you factored in the Premier Passport? Currently our Passports are NOT visible/linkable on your app.

  • I’m keen to see improvements as the next person, but I really wish Disney would not assume that every guest comes to the parks with a smart phone! For us travelling from the UK, data bundles for the US are so expensive, it prohibits using phones fir anything but emergencies so we can’t ‘just use the Disney app’ as we were told countless times by cast members. This shows me that Disney don’t really understand their international guests at all!

  • I see that the official Disney MaxPass page now answers the Premier Pass question: “The Disney MaxPass feature is an included benefit with the Disney Signature Plus Passport and the Disney Premier Passport.”

  • So does that mean they are taking away Photo benefits for Signature Passholders? Dislike!

  • I am a Premier Passholder. Do I get it included too?

  • Add my voice to those who are highly disappointed that MaxPass wasn’t added to the Signature annual passes at no additional charge. We already have unlimited PhotoPass downloads, so we pay $75 to add MaxPass but don’t receive the same value as those with lower tier annual passes. I believe Disney has made a mistake in not treating the Signature annual pass holders as well as any of the other pass holders, since Signature Plus gets MaxPass at no charge and Deluxe and below receive the benefit of PhotoPass for their $75. Poor, poor move, Disney!

  • Will Premier Passports (more expensive than Signature Plus passes) also get this benefit at no additional cost?

  • This is a nice feature, but I second some of the other commenters regarding charging Signature AP holders for this additional service. I already have the PhotoPass as part of my AP; $75 is a steep add-on. Depending upon whether the MaxPass works for my group (rather than just me), I may just purchase the $10 day for one day during certain trips.

  • Jason: the screen will have a barcode to scan. You can also reserve fastpasses for your whole family. If someone decide not to go on the same ride then book fastpasses for those who would like to do another ride.

  • Is there going to be free wifi in the parks. Cause otherwise it wouldn’t work for me as I am from Canada and the roaming rates would be crazy

  • So, a family of 4 would be $40/day? e.g. going for 5 days means an additional $200 to the trip?

  • Signature should already include it because it has the photopass already. Not very smart Disney. Why should I pay $75 more just to get something I already had for free?!

  • Tara: so everyone in the group including the kids have to have MaxPass in order to get the digital fastpasses. Now, only one person needs the app because you can link all your tickets to the app. You have the option of naming the tickets. Once they are named you can not change it. If the whole group stays together theought the whole trip then it would make sense to stick with one person being the main account holder. You can have someone do their own thing if they want. They just have to link their own ticket to their app.

  • The Premier Passport acts as a Signature Plus pass at Disneyland so I would assume it is included as well. If not that would be an mind boggling decision that I can’t see how they could possibly defend.

  • I agree with several of the comments here. I think Signature, Signature Plus and Premier should receive the MaxPass. I also agree that $75 is not out of line to pay to add this. I’ll pay the $75 for my Signature AP, and will reconsider how often I use it when my renewal comes up in January.

  • Are there any discounts for MaxPass for Signature APs? We already get photos and shouldn’t have to pay for them twice.

  • Erin – Me and my son are Signature holders, why should we pay $75 for the pics and fast passes, when we get the the photos for free anyways? This doesn’t make sense. I am paying for something that is already included in my pass? I will just stick with my paper fast passes. I cannot justify to pay for something that is already included with my pass. If anything, it should be included or at least discounted for just the fast pass usage.

  • So, I am trying to understand the value that I would get by paying $75 to add MaxPass to my Signature AP. I already get the free PhotoPass (same as Signature Plus). So the only benefit is I don’t have to walk to the attraction to get a FREE paper FastPass.

    What am I missing?

  • If we add this to a Signature Passport for $75, but decide to upgrade to Signature Plus at a later date, do we pay the full difference, or the difference minus $75?

  • How does the Maxpass work if you have kids without phones? Would I have their Maxpasses on my phone, similar to WDW?

  • So as a Signature (not plus) pass holder who already has the photo benefit I have to pay $75, the same price as someone who doesn’t? It doesn’t seem right to pay the same for less of a benefit.

  • Hello – For AP Holders will the $75 be prorated for people adding it on to their existing AP?

  • Really disappointed MaxPass is not included on the Signature Pass, which already includes photopass downloads. For $75, the lower level passes will be purchasing photopass downloads AND the MaxPass capability. For the same $75, Signature passholders will only be receiving the MaxPass capability since photo downloads are already included. Signature passholders will not be getting the same value out of their $75. This is not a magical experience.

  • An option for all AP holders hasn’t been announced as of yet. That would make it, as of now, still separate for APHs to purchase per person just like every other ticketholder.

  • I’m a Signature (NOT plus) passholder, I just want to confirm that Maxpass is only being offered to Signature plus and not the standard signature passes?

  • Will you be able to manage all the max passes on a season passport if they are connected to one account?

  • I second Mary’s question. My wife and I have the Premiere Passport and we have nothing but trouble using it with the Disneyland App – last time we were at Disneyland, we were unable to link our AP into the app. Has this been fixed, or is there an ETA for a fix? I would hope this Passport offers the free MaxPass as well.

  • @Mary, I would assume so as the Signature Plus pass gets it at no additional cost.

    Might have to upgrade my SO to the Plus as her pass expires next month anyways

  • Golly – Signature passes shouldn’t have to pay either, we get the photopass benefit too. This is a hard one for me to get behind Disney.

  • I’m pleased that there is a discount for annual passholders. After trudging back and forth in DCA yesterday to get FastPasses, I’m looking forward to the MaxPass.

  • Just Signature Plus, not Signature? Besides Signature being blocked out the last 2 weeks of the year, they’re identical, so it seems they should both get this entitlement.

  • I am curious how this works for everyone in your group. Do we all have to have the app and just hope we can get the same return time? What about children?

  • In WDW, the fast passes you book on the app are tied to your wristband. You simply swipe your band at the Fast Pass entrance, but how do they work here? Is it a code on your phone screen?

    Also, can I reserve fast passes for all of my family or does each member of my family have to reserve their own?

  • Sad that both Signature categories don’t get it free as photos are included with BOTH passes.
