A Walk in the Park: Peaceful Mornings at Disneyland Park

One of my job perks is getting to see Disneyland park before guests arrive. I take a morning stroll through the resort once a week, usually on Mondays, in an effort to keep the photographic archive current and quietly make art.

It’s a privilege to watch sunrise at the Matterhorn. Ducklings waddle between waterways on thoroughfares normally bustling with tourists.

Colorful flowers blossom in Mickey’s Toontown.

Royal Street in New Orleans Square is often soaked from a night of steam cleaning and plant care.

Leaves sway with the breeze at Tarzan’s Treehouse and create a quiet soundtrack.

I can’t look at the iconic arches of Sleeping Beauty Castle from King Arthur Carrousel without seeing Walt Disney walking through them in my mind’s eye, inspecting his original Magic Kingdom on a morning not unlike this one, and feeling a very real connection.

There’s peace and beauty at Disneyland park in the morning, whether the sky is gloomy or bright. Add the smell of eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes and fresh, piping hot coffee from Carnation Café and … okay … enough writing … it’s breakfast time.

  • Great post!

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this post! I never tire of all the little details in the Park.

  • As a fellow photographer who loves shooting the Parks, I must say these shots are fantastic. On a side note, you have my dream job. Thank you fit providing such mahic!

  • Beautiful! As a photographer myself I would kill to be able to be in the parks early. Best job ever!

  • Beautiful photographs! Can the “morning walk-through” be created as a special event for park guests/annual pass holders?

  • Beautiful photos! What a magical thing to experience. Thank you for sharing.

  • Joshua;
Lovely shots and great memories. I recall doing the same when I was a cast member. Usually on my way to the Inn Between to get breakfast and then find a quiet spot along the Rivers of America to enjoy.

  • Do you need an park check buddy. I would love to go to an empty park and see the beauty often missed.

One of the greatest moments was on the 24hour days and seeing the American Flag being raised at dawn’s earlier light. I would love to feel that wonderful moment again, of course with my camera in hand.

Thank you for the wonderful photos.

  • Such amazing shots here! I only wish I could enjoy the same quiet views as you! Looking forward to bringing my 2 kids here for some busy fun next year!

  • Thank you for this early morning visit to Disneyland. I love going into Disney World parks early. There is something magical about it.

This also reminded me that in less than a year we will be back to Disneyland to celebrate our 40th anniversary with our family. We went there on our honeymoon.
