As many Disney parks fans are aware, two new lands – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land – are currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But today we’re sharing a look at another area of the park that’s undergoing its own transformation.

Muppets Courtyard, along with a portion of the former Streets of America, is being re-imagined by Walt Disney Imagineering to become a new area called Grand Avenue. Inspired by the revitalization and the vibrant culture of present-day downtown Los Angeles, Grand Avenue is where vintage office buildings and warehouses are being converted to exciting new uses. Guests will soon see facades for “merchants” appearing in this area for a music shop, loft apartments, a tailor and more, with each window on the street featuring charming displays.

A highlight of Grand Avenue is sure to be BaseLine Tap House, which takes over a former F&B location. This new corner pub will feature California beers and wines along with a selection of small bites. (Read more on BaseLine Tap House in this post by Pam Brandon).

The current Muppets Courtyard will become Grand Park, an urban square off Grand Avenue surrounded by shops and restaurants like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. Guests can already see changes in the area, with the Muppets theater being renamed “Grand Arts Theatre” and boasting a brand-new marquee. But, not to worry – Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang continue to star in their hilarious and irreverent “Muppet*Vision 3D” show.

Grand Avenue will be opening to guests this fall. Stay tuned to Disney Parks Blog for future updates.

Comments

  • Don’t remove or change Muppet*Vision 3D, ever. Please?

    Please? It was his final work. ;_;

  • It’s extremely disappointing they turned Miss Piggy’s fountain into a planter.

  • As I’ve understood it the planter change was due to the nearby construction and would be returning as soon as it’s possible to do so. Can’t wait to see what the new area looks like.

  • I think this post is mistakenly tagged as Disneyland Paris…

  • Jennifer, will this name change be effective immediately or will the Grand Park name debut with Grand Avenue’s opening?

  • um…it says disneyland paris at the top.

  • Great news for this park but why is this post tagged as a Walt Disney Studios, Disneyland Paris Story in the section of Destinations? I suppose it is an error…

  • Please don’t do this to the muppets. A StarWars land a Toystory Land no Muppets Land why take this away from all the muppet fans please don’t do this!!!

  • What happened pleas don’t take away the muppet land we Muppet fans need this please don’t touch Jim’s last project pleas

  • Disappointing to a near heartbreaking degree.

  • This sounds horrible. Downtown LA? Also, when are you changing the name? Because there’s nothing left to make this Hollywood Studios anymore. So very sad what’s happening to this park.

  • Just remember people…“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” -Walt Disney

  • I’m hoping Muppets stay in the park somewhere. There are plenty of adults who truly love the Muppets. An updated 3D experience would make me happy!

That said, I’m excited to see how the new changes look. Hoping this and/or The Edison are open in September!

  • Hi there,
I realize there is a pizza restaurant in this area, but will Toy Story Land have the Pizza Planet restaurant when it reopens? We really enjoyed having a lunch there.
I appreciate the change to that area, but please keep the beautiful art deco style of the main area of Hollywood Studios, that is reminiscent of the birthplace of films.
It’s fun to see new places emerging melding in with the original places, but “Old Hollywood” is pretty special.
When you paired with TCM for the GREAT MOVIE RIDE (sad to see it go) it was a perfect blend. I am a big fan of the old movies and it has taught me alot about American history and the original great stars of Hollywood. I also quite honestly, see a lot of imagery and the feelings those movies evoke with Walt Disney and his vision…so keep that beautiful feel of the glamour days of Hollywood for Hollywood Studios.
    Thanks. 🙂

  • The new avenue sounds pretty cool!!! So very very happy that Muppet*Vision 3D is staying. It’s one of my all time favorites!!! The film could be updated a tad but, if that happens, don’t take away the charm & whimsy. I still miss the original version of Imagination with Figment & Dreamfinder.

  • I love the fact that Disney creative team is being new and exciting adventures to Disney Studios…… A bit of nostalgia with the new will be a refreshing palate for all generations!

  • Sounds like they are moving Disney Springs to Hollywood Studios. We don’t need more shopping and restaurants in the park. We need more activities. If I want to shop I will go to Disney Springs and not have to pay $100 to get into the park.

  • Very sad to see the great movie ride go. It might have needed some up dating but it is the centerpiece of holly wood studios.
excited to see the new Muppets courtyard sounds great!

  • I agree with the comments saying Hollywood Studios needs more attractions; NOT more stores! That is why we go to Disney Springs. I’m also truly disappointed that you seem to be getting rid of so much nostalgia (i.e. The Great Movie Ride)!
