Gingerbread houses, beautiful trees and twinkling lights everywhere, these are just a few of the magical holiday decorations guests can enjoy at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels.
As you enter Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa you are immediately immersed into the holiday season with the aromatic smell of their amazing gingerbread house located in the hotel lobby. For 19 years Guests have enjoyed this spectacular masterpiece, which is created with 1,050 lbs. of honey, 700 lbs. of chocolate, 600 lbs. of confectioners’ sugar, 35 lbs. of spices, 800 lbs. of flour, 140 pints of egg whites, and 180 lbs. apricot glaze. Did we mention more than 10,000 pieces of gingerbread are used in creating the house?
Disney’s Contemporary Resort is home to Cinderella Castle which is created in a Mary Blair-style set on an “it’s a small world” backdrop, with oversized gingerbread cookies depicting Cinderella and Prince Charming greeting guests from the Castle forecourt. The 18’ tall display is crafted from thousands of gingerbread blocks, rolled fondant, and modeling chocolate. It can be found on the 4th floor beginning November 9. While there you can also purchase some incredible sweets, including Chocolate Peppermint Cookies, Linzer Cookies, Gingerbread Gelato and Frozen Hot Chocolate and Cider.
Guests are more than welcome to tour all of the beautifully decorated resorts, as Disney Parks Moms Panelist, Marc L. explains in a recent answer. He encourages Guests to begin with the Monorail resorts and then hop on a quick boat ride to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. And be sure not to miss the amazing decorations at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Here Guests can enjoy the 18th anniversary of the Holiday Carousel. This life-size, edible spinning carousel is a holiday tradition at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Lilo and Stitch themed carousel horses with coordinating hand painted holiday characters can be found in this amazing carousel. It will also feature handcrafted gingerbread snowmen and snowflakes. Also, be sure to look for the 18 “hidden Mickey’s,” one added for each anniversary year.

We were just at Disney contemporary and I had the best chocolate peppermint cookie. I’m looking for the recipe. It didn’t have chocolate chips in it and it was a pretty thick cookie.
Our family is heading to the GF on December 21st and can’t wait to experience our 1st Christmas at Walt Disney World! The images of the lobby of the Grand Floridian are beautiful – we are so grateful to have the opportunity to see it in person. Counting the days (and our blessings) until we arrive.
