Main Street, U.S.A., Vehicles and Dumbo the Flying Elephant at Disneyland Park to Begin Updates Jan. 8

Two original Disneyland park attractions will close temporarily beginning Jan. 8 to receive updates. For the first time, the horse-drawn streetcar track on Main Street, U.S.A., will be replaced in its entirety, temporarily pausing the operation of all Main Street, U.S.A. vehicles. Also, Dumbo the Flying Elephant will receive a new queue location for guest comfort and accessibility.

Refurbishment is a common practice that we perform periodically to keep our attractions fresh and up to date. While sections of the Main Street, U.S.A., track have been replaced before, this complete replacement will incorporate new brickwork that will enhance the look of the iconic thoroughfare. The pieces of original track that remain today will be salvaged and preserved, and the previously updated pieces of track will be recycled.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant also will close temporarily beginning Jan. 8 to move the location of its queue and erect a new shade structure. The attraction will also be up to its “ears” in fresh paint! Main Street, U.S.A., vehicles and Dumbo the Flying Elephant will reopen in late winter and early spring, respectively.

  • Is this why no fireworks are currently listed for late January and early February?

  • Will the horse drawn carriages return? Is that considered part of the Main Street Vehicles?

  • Michelle, They are replacing the original tracks. A rumor is they will remove the cross over section. The double track section. It will make Main Street a mess. And Paul, I did not know about the Fireworks. I think you are correct. January is a slower time, after the 1st week.

  • I love when attraction re-open, Disney is making them better experiences.

  • Love those vintage photos showing Walt!

  • When are u going to re open both parks planning to go June 2018

  • Looking forward to all the new changes! Disneyland is our favorite vacation for our family! We will be there this summer!

    Appreciate the updates!

  • How long will the track refurbishment last?

  • When will The Main Street refurbishment be complete?

  • Dumbo will reopen early spring? What does that mean? We have a trip planned mid-April, specifically for my daughter who is obsessed with Dumbo! She will be heart broken if it is still closed then.
