Among everything to see and do around the World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot, a guest-favorite that has been there since day one is The American Adventure attraction. This marvel of engineering brings together a moving stage, 35 Audio-Animatronics figures and a giant screen that together shares the story of the United States of America.
Right now, the team at Epcot is busy converting the attraction to an all-digital projection system, and installing a new screen and new speakers so the show will look and sound better than ever before when it reopens later this month.
In addition to the update from film to digital, the show’s finale will return with some notable faces from America’s recent history. Newly-added American icons include individuals such as music composer John Williams, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and noted ballerina Misty Copeland.
And that’s not all: the iconic anthem “Golden Dream” has been re-recorded with all-new orchestration that brings the beloved music and lyrics to life in a way that will resonate more than ever. If you’re like me, you’re already humming along – ‘America, spread your golden wings!’

This attraction has ALWAYS stirred a lot of emotion within me. I still remember when I came to WDW in September of 1992. I was staying on property for the first time and I was by myself. I was walking into the American Adventure behind a Japanese family. The husband’s mother was visiting from Japan, as well. Both the husband and the wife were trying to convince the mother to move to the U.S. She kept saying she was too old to move and start over again. As we went into the theatre and sat down for the performance, I remember the mother looking at all the Statues of the Spirits of America (I STILL want a set of those!). Once the show was completed, I saw the family coming out. The mother had tears in her eyes, saying “I now know why you came! I will stay!” Still get a warm feeling when I think of this Magical Moment!
Being a Civil War buff, I love the that part of the film with that moving song. I hope that is not being changed.
I’m totally excited about the new advances to the song, it always gives me goosebumps! I wish they would bring back Douglas McArthur, too many of today’s youth do not remember our true history!
No more Lance Armstrong in the finale? That always was a bit jarring to see
Will we see the removal of any figures and historical characters or will they all be present just with these new icons added in with them when it reopens?
The attraction is supposed to reopen by the end of the month, according to a couple cast member friends.
What am I most looking forward to? Honestly, I really want to see the rising curtain at the beginning of the show properly synced with the video – for the better part of a decade a very nice effect has been marred by this problem.
I agree with Carol the interaction between Franklin and Twain is excellent. I do hope that they remember to remove Lance Armstrong from the finale. Can’t wait until my September visit to see the show and its improvements.
I’d say it’s about time. As much as I love the attraction, it doesn’t really get updated so much. I think the last time it was updated was sometime after 2001 when they updated the filmed montage to include events from September 11th.
This is an amazing attraction. I took the Backstage Magic tour a few years ago and you really get to see how it all works. The discussions between Mark Twain and Benjamin Franklin are my favorite scenes. The movie has always been inspirational – combine that with the music, Golden Dream – well “America, spread your golden wings!” Hope it will be open on my next trip.
