What a spectacular shot we have to share with you in tonight’s “After Dark” series.
The image, snapped by photographer Mark Willard, was taken of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” at Epcot. This guest-favorite nighttime spectacular has been entertaining families at Epcot since it debuted at the park in 1999.
The show tells the story of mankind in three acts: from the earth’s fiery birth to the triumph of life to hope for the future, set to an unbelievable score.

Illuminations started in 1999? What was the name of the show before that? I remember a night time show in Epcot when we took our kids in the late 80s untilthe mid 90s. Oh, and yes, we have to see Illuminations every long trip.

Yes, its a must do, always has been. I got engaged in 2010 during Illuminations. My best friend and her fiancé got engaged during Illuminations in 2017. And my husband and I honeymooned in WDW for 2 weeks, and saw Illuminations 4 times.
Illuminations is beautiful and we love the music. Have to always see it while we’re there. Christmas time is even more special. Hope it will never change.
A “must see” at least once on every trip! My daughter and I visit during Food and Wine each year, and enjoy a glass of champagne with the show! We miss the old version of the dessert party – that was the best way to see Illuminations.
It is our favorite fireworks show, and we watch it every 6 weeks or so when we drive over for a weekend.
I’m going to disagree with most folks and say that I think the nighttime show at Epcot is past due for an update. I still make a point of seeing it on every trip, but I miss the original IllumiNations in which they would light up each country pavilion and play music specific to each country.
