Great storytelling is at the heart of everything we do at Disney, and in celebrating the triumphant return of Maleficent to Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade, we want to take a quick look back to remind readers of the creative inspiration behind the making of the float with the accompanying story:
Disney’s Festival of Fantasy Parade is a celebration of all beloved Disney stories you will find in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom Park. The procession features nearly 100 performers and Disney characters, with floats specifically telling the stories of “Tangled,” “Peter Pan,” “Brave,” “Sleeping Beauty” and many more.
Guests can meet Princess Aurora (“Sleeping Beauty”) in Fantasyland’s most beloved restaurant, Cinderella’s Royal Table; so what better way to celebrate that than to have Maleficent, in her villainous dragon form – along with her raven helpers; her nemesis Prince Phillip; and Good Fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather – rolling down Main Street U.S.A.
When Maleficent debuted in 2014, we sat down with Parade Designer Richard Improta from Disney Parks Live Entertainment, along with Tony Award-winning Production Designer Michael Curry, to discuss the inspiration behind this show-stopping float and their collaboration that brought Maleficent to epic life on the street.
We also got a sneak peek of some of the cast costumes from Designer Mirena Rada, including Maleficent’s ominous Ravens who do her bidding throughout the parade.
Beauty Rest Has Never Looked So Good!
Rumor has it that everyone’s favorite villain, Maleficent, is returning to Magic Kingdom Park today to re-take her rightful place in a certain festival… and it looks like she’s had some work done… although she would probably never admit it!
