‘Disney’s Walk Around the World’ Bricks to be Retired as Transformation of Arrival Experience Continues at Magic Kingdom Park

As many readers know, exciting improvements are being made to how you come and go at all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks. This includes reconfiguring walkways, and tram loading and unloading zones and more. We’re also enhancing security by adding more bag screening stations, metal detectors and other measures to aid in the screening of guests.

As work continues to transform the arrival experience, the bricks from “Disney’s Walk Around the World” near Magic Kingdom Park and the Transportation and Ticket Center will begin to be retired in the coming months. These bricks were sold with the commitment that they would be displayed until 2011. Since the bricks were not designed to be removed individually, they will not be available to take home. Instead, guests who sponsored a brick may purchase a commemorative version between now and Aug. 31, 2019, or while supplies last.

If you sponsored a brick and would like to get a souvenir version, here’s what to do:

If visiting in person:

  • Stop by City Hall at Magic Kingdom Park or Guest Relations at Disney Springs to verify your previous brick by sharing the name and hometown of the Guest who sponsored it.
  • After verification, you will be given a one-time use voucher to present by, or before Aug. 31, 2019, at Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. (at Magic Kingdom Park – separate theme park admission required) or the Marketplace Co-Op (at Disney Springs), enabling you to purchase one commemorative 6” brick at a special price of $10 (plus tax).

If needing to contact us virtually:

  • Email guest.services@disneyworld.com or call 407-828-2701 with the name and hometown of the guest who sponsored the brick.
  • After verification, you will be provided a code to use by, or before Aug. 31, 2019, on shopDisney.com to purchase one commemorative 6” brick at a special price of $10 (plus tax and shipping) starting this spring. Please note, this code is for one-time use and will only be valid on shopDisney.com and may not be redeemed in person or at any other location. (Limit one voucher or code per verified guest.)

For Guests who did not participate in the original “Disney’s Walk Around the World” program but would like to purchase a personalized brick, souvenir bricks are available to customize and purchase starting at $29.99 (plus tax and optional shipping). These are on sale now at Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. at Magic Kingdom Park (separate theme park admission required to enter) or the Marketplace Co-Op (at Disney Springs), or later on shopDisney.com starting this spring.

Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for more updates on work to improve your arrival experiences at our Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.

  • How long does it take to produce the souvenir tile ? I will be in DisneyWorld for only 2 days…
Can I order it before I get down there ?

  • I’m so sad that these are going away. I don’t know a single person/family on these bricks but I love looking at them on the way in to Magic Kingdom. Thanks to everyone who purchased them in the past and created some Disney magic for me and my family.

  • Can you let me know about the Around the World style. What picture is on the front? Is it a Mickey Head , Mickey with Walt or the Castle? It just states there will be something on back but not what is on the front.

  • How can we find out the exact wording on each line of the Brick we currently own? I’d like to make my replica the same for my family. Would Guest Services have this information?

  • Ugh! Just tried to purchase my commemorative brick and they will not ship to Canada 🙁

  • The Bricks are now available on shopDisney!! I just purchased my 6″ version for $9.99 with my promotion code from my existing brick. 🙂

  • I too want to know when they will be on Shop Disney. There has been no information other than “end of April”

  • Hi, has there been any update on when we will be able to access these on shopDisney? I have my verification code and am excited to get my little piece of the magic. 🙂

  • Any update on when we will find them on shopDisney?

  • Hi Thomas! As we eagerly await the chance to buy the commemorative editions on-line, and as we sadly say good-bye to such a huge part of our Disney history, is there any way to reach out to the original vendor to get a real replacement made instead of these metal versions?
    .
We had a 1995 brick, down near the walkway with little traffic, which looked great even last year, and which had many a family/friend take their pic next to it. We also had a 2000 brick, at Transportation Center, in high traffic, which, as expected, has basically been erased, harr. Would do almost anything to get that 1995 original brick. ;o)

  • We just bought one of the new bricks (April). We put it in our garden when we got home. After the first rain all the writing and picture washed off. I didn’t see anywhere that said don’t put it outside. My family is very sad this happened

  • As a former cast member and author of the original sales tracking and locator software it saddens me to hear the walkway is being retired. I have great memories of this project.

I do, however, appreciate seeing the above comments. I’m so happy to have touched the lives of others in such a memorable way.

Wishing you all the very best!!

  • Does this go for all the bricks? Including the ones at the Polynesian resort?

  • the article says that everyone can purchase the bricks at shopDisney this spring..but spring is over in just over a month. When can we start to purchase these online? Want to get one for my family.

  • Will this also be happening at Disneyland in California? And if so, will Disney be doing another event where you can have your brick displayed st the park?

  • What does verification consist of? Also, how heavy are the 6″ bricks? We will be there in May and would love to purchase a replica of the one my son has at the TTC. I just worry it might be too heavy for our luggage and we might do better to have it shipped from shopDisney. Thanks!

  • Will there be a new version of this program or something similar installed during construction? I would love to purchase a brick for my mother, and have another excuse to visit Disney to see the brick!

    • Hi, Brooke. The new bricks are only available for purchase as a take-home souvenir. They will not be displayed at the Walt Disney World Resort.

  • 3 Questions.
Can each person listed on the brick get their own commerarative brick?

Can we get a commutative brick that looks like the original brick?

What do we do if we purchased multiple bricks and Disney can’t find the records for the physical bricks that are currently in front of the Magic Kingdom entrance at Disney World (at least they were still there at Christmas 2016)?

  • Are u only allowed one brick? My family of 5 is on the brick of ours we got in 2000 would like to get one for each person

  • Will they also remove the bricks in front of Disneyland in Anaheim? Or will this only affect the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks?

    • There are currently no plans for Disneyland Resort to make changes to their personalized bricks.

  • My family purchased a brick and it is at the Poly… will they be removed as well? Will we be able to get a replica?

    • Yes, we will remove all the personalized bricks in phases, starting with those in front of Magic Kingdom Park and Transportation and Ticket Center. Please refer to the steps above on how to get a commemorative version.

  • I wish the commemorative bricks could exactly match the bricks we purchased. We have one of the 25th anniversary bricks. That is the one I would most like to have a replica of.

  • I will so miss these! I always visit my grandmother’s brick before I go into the Magic Kingdom and I like to think her spirit tags along with me for a ride on it’s a small world.

  • It’s awesome that those of us who weren’t around when the original bricks were being laid can also get commemorative bricks! They were a wonderful part of the atmosphere entering the parks, so it’s sad to see them go, but it will be amazing to see whatever is in store!

  • I would miss our paver brick so much! Will every single brick be removed? Ours are by the trees near the Magic Kingdom turnstiles (aka tap entry points). I have a picture of us with our brick on every visit. My how we have grown over the years!

    • Hi Mark, we will remove all the personalized bricks in phases, starting with those in front of Magic Kingdom Park and Transportation and Ticket Center.

  • Will all the bricks be removed or just the ones around the boat dock, monorail exit and bus loops? Our brick is along walkway around the lagoon about where the jungle cruise is, and doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic. Will it be removed?

    • We will remove all the personalized bricks in phases, starting with those in front of Magic Kingdom Park and Transportation and Ticket Center.

  • “While supplies lasts” makes me nervous they won’t be available when I’m At WDW in June. What are my chances?

  • I have 2 brinks, one for 25th birthday and my wedding. Will I be able to get the commemorative versions sent outside the United States

  • 🙁 I’ll miss my real brick they should do it again

  • Hi! Can you please provide more info on obtaining the commemorative version of our brick? If we go to Magic Kingdom and order it, is it something they can do instantly or do we have to come back later to pick it up? I’ll be in Magic Kingdom on a tight schedule, so I’m curious how long it takes so I can plan my day. Thank you! 🙂

    • Similar to other on-demand products, the bricks can be made on the spot (with wait times varying based on demand). Please allow a minimum of thirty minutes.

  • We have a brick to commemorate our 1995 Disney wedding. I’m so glad I will be able to get a commemorative version.
