You never know what strange things will materialize when happy haunts are involved. It’s been a couple of years now (though it feels like 50) since I’ve had the chance to write, or in this case “ghost” write for the Disney Parks Blog, and I’ve very much missed so many of you kind souls …
One of our most beloved Disneyland Resort attractions, Haunted Mansion, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. To celebrate, we’re throwing an “under the hill” soiree and I’m excited to share the event details with you now.
In August, choose to attend one of the “The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving” events. These after-hours events at Disneyland park are filled with chills, thrills and frightful fun. Unearth commemorative anniversary merchandise items, delight in spirited sips and bites, enjoy special entertainment, character encounters, photo ops, and access to several west-side park attractions, plus a few supernatural surprises.
Here are the event highlights:
- Gather for a 13th Hour Celebration Kick-off moment along the Rivers of America. Madame Leota will make a special appearance to conjure up the ensuing party festivities, lovingly referred to as a “Swinging Wake.” Other supernatural surprises include a lively cavalcade of musicians, dancers and performers from beyond the grave.
- Re-create hauntingly fun moments and scenes from the attraction against themed backdrops. You’ll also receive unlimited digital downloads of Disney PhotoPass photos taken during the event.
- Enjoy event-themed food and beverages, in addition to other unique menu items available for purchase at select park locations.
- Mix and mingle with some of our dearly departed souls and otherworldly characters from the Haunted Mansion.
- Pay homage to 50 phenomenal years through themed décor as 999 tenants anxiously await their newest arrivals.
- Enjoy after-hours access to select attractions in New Orleans Square, Frontierland and Adventureland. Note: Select attractions will close early during the event.
- See and be seen while wearing attire inspired by your favorite happy haunts! Plus, limited-time Snapchat filters and event hashtags are great for pics posted on your social media feeds.
- Get your first look at all of the Estate Merchandise that has been conjured up for the event. You won’t believe your eyes. Here’s a sneak peek at a few of the items we were able to dig up:

Event Ticket Tip: When purchasing the event ticket, you will be allowed to purchase one (1) ticket per person, per event date, per transaction. You might wonder why, and it is due to the merchandise offerings that will be released in conjunction with the event which requires each ticketed event guest to have a unique registration ID.
A limited quantity of tickets for both event nights will be available beginning Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. PT. Learn more about the event, details and pricing, including how to purchase tickets here.
Hurry Back …
Tickets to the event are valid only for the specific event date and hours. Tickets can only be purchased online – availability is limited, while supplies last. No discounts apply. Parking fees not included in ticket price. Tickets are non-refundable and may not be resold or transferred for commercial use. Costumes are subject to Disney guidelines and should not be obstructive or offensive; please check special event costume guidelines at https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/dress/ for restrictions. When is Trader Sam’s gonna start selling Tiki mugs for limited edition mugs in October??
Last year was Hatbix ghost tiki mug.
Thanks!
Is this going all month long
@Bonnie – e-mails with check in details & merchandise pickup info went out on 7/24 & 7/25. Hopefully yours is forthcoming.
Glad I got a ticket, but when will more information be sent out? I’m confused about the time as well as the check in location. Is there a place to read more about the event? Thank you!
Previous comments show concern about time and I am also confused. It states 10am – 4am, but in another place it states that you are only in Disneyland from 12am/1am-4am. For $300/ticket for 3 hours? For the price(of more than two 1-park tickets), after checkout in the AM, are we allowed in the park prior to the event time at night?
Does anyone know if Disney plans to release more details about the event. For instance what specialty foods will be offered? Also I’ve seen mixed info about what time we’ll be allowed into the park. I’ve seen as early as midnight listed. Is it possible to sign in for the party inside the park like we do for the Halloween party?
Are there going to be any updated pictures on the merchandise that only has concept art once it becomes available?? A lot of the RSPs I made only had concept art so I’d be interested to see how they will look as a completed product.
Will the merchandise be available at the event also, or do we need to do the RSP in order to get something? Also, if we do the RSP, when do we pay for the items we were able to get?
Hello! We are a family of 4 traveling from Indiana and want to purchase tickets for this event. How do recommend purchasing 4 tickets so that we can attend together? There is no guarantee that our dates will be together? That will be an expensive gamble if it doesn’t work out…
Sorry, I am confused. It states 10am – 4am, but in another place it states that you are only in Disneyland from 1am-4am. Which one is correct?
I have a Signature Plus Annual Pass which normally includes free parking at the resort theme park parking lots. The information about this event makes it sound like I will have to pay $25 to park for the event? Is this true, or will my pass get me free parking at the event? If not, I will make different arrangements to get myself there, so I appreciate knowing this in advance. Thanks.
Is this an actual event going on at Disney?
Does anyone know how many ticket will be sold for this event each night?
This sounds like a Swingingly and Frightfully good time. The Haunted Mansion is almost as nice as Sleeping Beauty CASTLE!! But alas, won’t be able to make it due to not being able to get the Crypt Door open. Once out, we’ll be sure to Hurry Back, Hurry back!
You said remaining items would be at both Disneyland and WDW, is it possible to place the items online also, for those of us that do not live near a park please?
Am I to understand we have to purchase all of the food at this event because it kind of reads that way.
At $300 a ticket, I just cannot take a chance of not being able to get the two tickets I want at the same time. If I complete one transaction, then go back and try to purchase another and it’s not available, I’m stuck with a ticket that I cannot get a refund for. If I don’t want to waste the ticket, then I’d have to attend the event by myself. Does that really sound reasonable to you? I think there has to be a better way, Disney.
It would be wonderful if we could get proper heads ups on these events so that those of us who would need to raise a little funding could do so before tickets went on sale. Thank you for your consideration!
The price would be worth it if there was Galaxy’s Edge access
Will the Pandora charms be offered for purchase to Disneyland or WDW guests or online after the event or will they only be available at the event? Same questions regarding any pins offered.
Respectfully, was there a good reason why this announcement was made with only two days notice before ticket sales? For such a high-ticket event, it would seem to me to be more courteous to guests to give a little more heads-up time. It excludes those fans who need a little time to come up with the funds for such a pricey ticket, and seems to be targeted to those privileged enough to have a large disposable income for such a spur-of-the-moment offering. A month’s notice would have been nice, or at least two weeks, in my opinion. Thanks for listening.
Hi, I noticed that the event isn’t listed under Special Events on the main Disney Parks site. Is the blog post link the only way to access the ticket page?
I love the suggestion of opting out of purchasing merchandise to secure more than one ticket. Please consider this or please consider changing this to a two ticket limit. Please! As someone that drives from another state to visit the park, I cannot risk buying one ticket at a time when there’s no guarantee I can get another ticket. Plus it’s nonrefundable. Please Disney!
PLEASE change this so that more than one ticket can be purchased at a time.
I’ll happily opt out of merchandise or whatever other reason you’ve restricted this.
I can’t risk you selling out and me being unable to purchase a ticket for my spouse.
PLEASE
I truly want to attend this event but how in the world can we only purchase one ticket per transaction? I honestly cannot take a $299 chance that I’ll be able to get a 2nd ticket. Please please come up with a better solution before Thursday at 10 am.
I want to attend with my husband but am afraid I won’t be able to get two tickets if I have to purchase them separately and he will not be able to log on from work to purchase them. What should I do?
So do we need to check out separately for each person in our group? My husband and I would like to go but we are worried that even if we are to obtain one ticket that we won’t be able to get the second before they sell out.
You will be allowed to purchase one (1) ticket per reservation, per person, per event date. This is due to the merchandise offerings that will be released in conjunction with the event which requires each ticketed event guest to have a unique registration ID. In addition, we will offer a virtual queuing system that will show you your place in line before entering the ticketing system.
I cannot get the link to work.
What if we are not able to attend these parties will there be anything special going on in the park during the normal day hours on Friday the 9th? Thanks
If myself, my husband and my daughter want to attend, do we all three need to be on seperate computers and have our own seperate logins to try and get three tickets to the same date? It seems very risky that we might be out $300-600 if all three of us cannot tickets. Can you advise?
Looking at the RSP items, it looks like a lot of the merchandise, that isn’t LE with edition numbers, will be eventually be released in the parks. Is this the case? And if so when should we expect to see the items in Disneyland and Walt Disney World?
Hi there, you are correct Autumn, many of these items will actually debut as part of the event. Should quantities of any of those items remain you can expect to find them in locations at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort following the event.
