We recently shared the exciting news that the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program has inspired more than 2 million hours of volunteer service across America. Together, Disney and Points of Light—the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service—are encouraging nonprofit organizations and schools to make a difference with family volunteerism as part of the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. The program recognizes efforts of eligible schools and nonprofits who organize family volunteer projects by providing Disney park tickets to use as a reward for volunteers, contest prizes, fundraisers or in other creative ways.

A Gift For Teaching—a nonprofit organization serving local students and the primary provider of free school supplies to teachers across Central Florida—is the most recent recipient of Disney park tickets through the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program. A Gift For Teaching was surprised with this recognition during their Back-to-School Kids and Family Day.

“The volunteer work done today by compassionate families is absolutely inspiring, and we know that kids who volunteer grow up to be adults who volunteer,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Director of Corporate Citizenship at Walt Disney World. “These opportunities for family volunteers wouldn’t be possible without our incredible local nonprofits and schools that are constantly improving their communities and changing the world.”

Disney has a longstanding relationship with A Gift For Teaching, and Disney VoluntEARS frequently participate in volunteering opportunities with the organization, including the annual Back-to-School Supply Drive.

“Providing free school supplies to local students in need is a fulfilling experience for our volunteers,” said Jane Thompson, executive director, A Gift For Teaching. “To be recognized by Disney for the family volunteer opportunities we offer is so heartening, and this reward will help us give back to our members as they continue to serve the community.”

The success of the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program recently led to the launch of a nationwide search for the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year.
