My son was 5 years old when I took him for his first pony ride at the Pony Farm at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. I remember there were just a few families in front of us in line and our wait was full of (adorable) anticipation. My son was full of questions as he watched the other kids board their ponies and walk through the maze of corrals ahead of us.
Which pony would he get to ride on? Would it be a boy or a girl? What color mane would it have? What would its name be? Would the pony swish its tail?
In the end, it was a Shetland pony named Jacques that made his day!
Today, I’m happy to share that not only will opportunities to make memories like this continue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground – but that the equine residents of both the Pony Farm and Tri-Circle-D Ranch are set to receive a beautiful new barn (which you can see pictured above). As you can see, Imagineers have redesigned the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, which will offer a modern stable and updated outdoor spaces and facilities for “The Happiest Horses on Earth.” The new ranch will maintain the history and spirit of the original Tri-Circle-D, welcoming guests to explore exhibits of classic Disney equestrian artifacts, some of which date back to the 1950s!
Starting August 19, the Draft Horse Barn and Pony Farm will temporarily be inaccessible to guests until the new barn debuts in Spring 2020. Guests can still enjoy Pony rides at the Trail Blaze Corral near the campground’s entrance, and the resort’s trail rides and carriage rides will continue to operate as normal.
Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for future updates on the resort’s new barn and its opening date. I know I can’t wait to check it out!
One Saturday late afternoon this Spring, we were over at ponies at the Tri – Cirle – D Ranch trying to find Lily, when a gentleman came out of the Barn and was talking with us and told us all about this beautiful new barn that was going to be built! He didn’t say when it was going to be completed. I see you have it debuting Spring 2020, hopefully before we arrive!
Thay are removing the existing barn to put in the parking lot for the new DVC resort called “Reflections lakeside Lodge”. Its to be placed on the site of the old River Country.
