Introducing the Disney Park Pass System for Reserving Theme Park Visits to Walt Disney World Resort

It’s almost time for magic as we prepare for the reopening of Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, starting July 11 with Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom and followed July 15 by EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’re taking a deliberate approach that includes limits on attendance and controlled guest density to align with guidance from health and government authorities on physical distancing. We’re also using technology to power creative solutions as we develop new ways for guests to visit The Most Magical Place on Earth in this unique environment. 

To manage attendance during this reopening period we are introducing the new Disney Park Pass system. During this time, all guests with a ticket or Annual Pass will be required to make a reservation in advance for each park entry, using this new online tool on

Here are a few important details to know about this new system: 

  • You’ll need a My Disney Experience account, as this is where your Walt Disney World Resort plans are stored and managed.
  • You’ll also need a valid theme park ticket or Annual Pass that’s linked to your My Disney Experience account. 
  • If you have a Disney Resort hotel reservation, be sure to link it to your My Disney Experience account beforehand, as well. 

Once you’ve logged into your My Disney Experience account and linked your ticket, you’ll have access to a calendar of available reservation dates for each theme park. If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for each date of your visit. Families and friends can link their tickets together and look to arrange theme park entries at the same time. 

Please note, park reservations are limited in number and subject to availability. Availability can change until the reservation is finalized. At this time, guests will be able to select one park per day; visiting more than one park per day will be temporarily unavailable upon the reopening of the theme parks due to attendance limitations. Guests with existing tickets that include the Park Hopper Option or Park Hopper Plus Option have options available to them for ticket modifications and cancellations, and can visit for more information. We hope to bring back the ability to visit more than one park per day soon and will continue to offer these add-ons for 2021 ticket purchases.

For Existing Ticket Holders and Annual Passholders: Beginning this week, we will reach out to existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders with more information on when they will be able to check availability to make their park reservations. We will open the Disney Park Pass system to these guests in phases, beginning with those with future Disney Resort and other select hotel stays. Later this summer, we will resume sales of 2020 tickets and Disney Resort hotel arrivals, based on availability of park reservations, while we continue to provide guests with existing tickets and Annual Passholders the opportunity to make park reservations for 2020 dates.

Planning a New Trip for Next Year: By June 28, all guests will be able to purchase new Disney Resort hotel packages and theme park tickets and make their park reservations for arrivals starting in 2021 as our phased reopening continues. Guests will be able to view park reservation availability on prior to purchasing their tickets. 

As you begin planning your upcoming visits, we’re also exploring engaging ways for guests to use their mobile tech to experience the magic – particularly now as the use of phones and apps continues to evolve. In 2021, we plan to unveil an innovative new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring features of a MagicBand to your smart devices, building on the app’s existing digital key feature. With this new offering on the horizon, we will be retiring our complimentary MagicBand distribution to Disney Resort hotel guests for new reservations with arrivals beginning Jan. 1, 2021. Disney Resort hotel guests will continue to have the option to purchase new MagicBands at a discount, and we’ll be introducing even more colors and designs featuring favorite Disney characters in the future. Guests who prefer not to purchase a discounted MagicBand will be able to use the My Disney Experience app or a Key to the World card during their visit. We will still offer MagicBands in retail locations and on, and guests will be able to continue using the wearables throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

We understand these updates may change the way you plan your visits to the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks and Disney Resort hotels for the time being.   • I have two tickets to go to Disney World but could not go because of COVID-19. Now I want to go but can not get the stupid passes online because I purchased my tickets thru the military base and not buying an expensive resort package. I want to use my tickets. Not happy at all!

  • I am having issues also. I have reservations for mid August at a resort but no tickets. This is not what Walt would want for us at all!

  • We had a family reservation of 9 for March which was cancelled. Re booked for June. that too cancelled. Re -booked for July 13. But cannot make dining reservations. Any idea when we can ?

  • Not sure who is reading these comments….I know things are in an uproar….but how about giving some information to us that have resort reservations for 2020 but no tickets. Saying that we can purchase them later in the summer, at this point, is frustrating because we don’t know if we will be able to get tickets, if we get tickets, will we still be able to get park reservations since everyone else that had tickets, has already booked their park reservations. We are military…will be able to get the Salute tickets for 2020??? That availability will determine whether we can even go when we are scheduled. If we have to cancel our 2020 dates…what will be left open for 2021 since others are already booking their lodging, tickets and park reservations. 2020 should have been dealt with before allowing people to book in 2021 (other than those that had to cancel since the parks were closed or choose to rebook their already booked 2020 trip).

  • Like many others have expressed, I too believe if we have a WDW resort reservation in 2020 we SHOULD be able to purchase tickets and book theme park reservations. We have already experienced the cancellation of our dining reservations/special events. I am DVC and have point that I must use (because banked from previous year) that now will not be as enjoyable if unable to visit the theme parks. I am highly disappointed. I hope we can be given a date as to when we can purchase tickets/reserve park passes (before availability runs out).

  • I was able to set up reservations for Dec with no problem. Does anyone know what the limit will be for each park each day? Will off site guests have a chance since WDW resort guests get first selection?

  • I too am frustrated like the rest of the people on here. We have resort reservation for the beginning of September but no park passes. After being on hold for an hour 3 times and also being cut off a few times, was told the same thing that they dont know when we can purchase park tickets. Resort guests with current reservations should be able to get and reserve park tickets. If we cant get tickets, I guess we will have to cancel. We have been out of state park visitors every few years. The way things are going and also the cost of tickets makes it impossible to come more often. This is definitely not the way Walt would want his guests to be treated.

  • I am a DVC member who is bringing my entire family down to celebrate Christmas. December 25- December 30. We have a three bedroom villa, a studio and a regular room booked.We have our airline tickets purchased. As DVC members we always purchase our tickets in coordination of when we can fast pass the rides. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation is being handled. I have a lot of money invested, a lot of commitments from family members…Disney needs to take care of all their patrons with resort and DVC reservations.
    I am trusting that Disney will make this MAGICAL very soon.

  • My husband and I made a resort reservation for November 2020, we didn’t buy tickets because the parks were closed and we like to choose our ticket dates according to extra magic hours, holiday events, etc. That is just what we are use to when planning our Disney trips. I was excited when I heard the parks would be opening in July and understand the reservation system but surprised and disappointed at the fact that resort reservations don’t get priority in purchasing tickets or scheduling a reservation. So now what? I am trying not to stress about it and keeping my fingers crossed that getting tickets and reservation for the dates we planned for will be available. I hope these comments about resort reservations are seen and heard and soon we receive some sort of email with a great big Mickey face on it saying “Did you think we forgot about you?” Haha

  • Have a resort reservation for Mid August. I had MNSSHP tickets and waited to buy a park ticket now I am told having a resort res basically means nothing in the getting a ticket priority list. Maybe I can get a ticket “later this summer” isn’t good enough. How do I tell my kids we just get to stay at the resort not go to the parks?

  • Run Disney had yet to cancel, postpone, or take the fall wine and dine race weekend virtual. For those of the 15000+ guests and their travel parties about to descend on Disney World the beginning of November, it would be great if you both could coordinate and communicate since we are 4 months away. If it is still on, we build our race weekends around a Disney vacation which just became a whole lot more complicated than before covid times. We cannot book a room right now or buy tickets to make reservations. To be clear, I’m ok with any decisions, but the lack or communication around this is staggering given the size of the event.

  • DVC members and booked our resort hotel a while ago for July 11 -18. Mistakenly decided not to buy the park tickets thinking since they are day specific, we will wait until COVID situation is clearer. It looks like not only will we not have a chance to buy park tickets associated with our stay, but if we cancel our hotel, there is no grace period on banking and have to use the points by the end of our use year on August 31st which won’t happen (again, can’t get tickets). The lesson was we should have just cancelled the trip and banked the points back in May versus assuming that if the parks are closed (or we can’t get tickets) , Disney would be reasonable and make accommodations for DVC members. What is the harm in changing the baking rules? An easy win for Disney.

  • My family and I have a trip in 24 days. My husband and I are pass holders and our kids are not. We are also DVC and had our resort booked but we waited on the purchase of park tickets for the kids when everything shut down thinking we would purchase as soon as we had more information. Apparently that was a bad idea. We were able to reserve parks for ourselves but not our kids. I don’t know what we are supposed to do. Our points will be lost if we don’t go because DVC said since the resorts are opened they couldn’t help us with our points. Can someone at Disney please address this situation that I am and so many others are stuck in.

  • We made our first Fort Wilderness campground revs back in February for May. This trip was the annual trip of our daughter and family trip. Had to move revs to November due to Covid-19 and daughter and family airline tickets changed. Was waiting to purchase tickets until we could see what happened with the Covid-19 closings. So now I read that we can not buy tickets this is not right I guess I should have bought tickets at revs time in February planning for a virus lol. Now we have very upset Grandsons that this would have been their first time into the parks ( last year trip there was no park visits due to cost). I do hope Disney reads this blog and notice that they have people that made revs and did not buy tickets that time and would like to buy them now. 😞

  • 15 HOURS, 2 on hold..DVC Member for 18 years & 3 months. My reservations have been linked since October 2019 & February 2020, our annual passes since they were purchased in November 2029. After 10.5 hours, I was permitted 3 days of park reservations. Now I cannot even log into MDE. I am so disgusted. To even contemplate selling my DVC after all the shenanigans , lack of communication by DVC and misinformation across the board.

  • Disney should place a limit on what people can book for I keep reading about people booking several resorts stays in one year for park entry while others who have planned for years are attempting to just get park entrance for their one-time vacation. That’s like going to the grocery store and taking all the toilet paper and hand sanitizer and leaving nothing for others.

  • Is there a maximum number of days you can reserve? I can’t seem to book resorts for my last two days in September even though they are showing as available for reservations and I have tickets/hotel stays on those days. Thank you.

  • -We too are DVC and can’t get a straight answer on when we can get tickets for our currently booked hotel stay. I talked to 2 agents today (after a 2hr hold each) and so did a travel agent I know. Each answer was vague and clearly a guess. Hopefully later this week was the consensus.
    – As for annual pass holders- yes, it only allowed me to book 3 days for three members of my family with a 9 day resort reservations. The 4th, it allowed booking for the whole stay. I talked to tech and was told it isn’t “normal” but is a “known issue” and all he could do was send in an IT ticket so I am left to wait and continue to log on regularly and hope. I have been working on all of this for most of the last 12 hours.

  • Spent the last 4 hours on the phone waiting on a CM which never answered, we could get three days to the parks but nothing past that. Being a AP member we should be able to get all 5 days but it would only give me 3.

  • The launch of the system was, predictably, a complete disaster. Almost 12 hours after I started this morning and I still only have 5 of 7 days booked for our stay in September at the Beach Club. Hopefully, reduced demand from the inevitable longterm downturn in the economy will force Disney to fix the systemic problems with its IT Department as it faces increased competition for consumers’ limited resources.

  • What if we are exisiting resort reservation holders but don’t yet have tickets, when can we buy them for our 2020 trips? And thanks to the cast member who told me to wait in case we had to cancel due to COVID. You would think that DVC members would get a heads up before doing something like this. No Im NOT having a magical day.
