Today, I’m so happy to tell you all that Leave A Legacy is returning to EPCOT! I’ve always been a super-fan of it, not just because I had a photo in it but because of the memories behind that photo. There’s quite a story here, and I’ll explain if you’ll indulge me for a moment.
Turning back the clock to 2000, I participated in a trivia contest for Walt Disney World cast members in honor of the new millennium. I’ve always had a knack for trivia and was quite happy to land a second-place score. As runner-up (after several tie-breaking questions, no less), the winner of the contest invited me to join him in commemorating our wins with a day at EPCOT the following week where he would redeem his first place prize – a picture in the Leave A Legacy display! He wanted me to be in it with him because it was such a great memory and, he figured, the start of a good friendship with a fellow trivia lover.
Well, that day at EPCOT with fellow Disney Parks Blog author Shawn Slater turned into our first date and, as they say, the rest is history. We’ve been married nearly 20 years and always loved visiting Leave a Legacy at the front of the park whenever we went to EPCOT.
Shifting gears back to the present, with the transformation of the EPCOT main entrance area, the original Legacy sculpture has been removed, but Leave A Legacy lives on in a beautiful new setting just outside the park. Shawn and I were thrilled to get a look at its new home this morning before the park opened and were even more excited to find the picture from our first date. Seeing Leave a Legacy again at EPCOT was incredibly special, and we’re so glad it’s part of the updated main entrance area – in a bright new color, too!

These newly designed panels are the first of many that will be installed outside the EPCOT touch points, featuring vibrant hues from the park’s new color palette. Along with the fresh look for Leave A Legacy, the beautiful fountain and gleaming pylons further illustrate the park’s transformation and the magic of possibility.
For anyone else who wants to search for a tile at the new location, guests can use their smart device to scan the QR code at the Leave a Legacy display. This opens up the tile finder search feature, which can provide the coordinates for a tile’s location. Guests can also visit the EPCOT guest Relations team for assistance.

Just as Shawn and I cherished visiting the original Leave a Legacy displays with our sons, these new panels will continue to celebrate the spirit of optimism. We go on!

That is such a cool story…that you have a picture always at EPCOT that turned out to be your first date.
My family lined up at 7 AM on October 1st,1999 to be on the first Leave a Legacy stone. There we were for over 20 years on monument A in positions 3-5. After they were removed the promise of a better location kept us happy. Today they are back but no longer next to each other. The QR code locator made it a challenge but there we are today. Still delivers some fond memories after all these decades
I’ve heard that these panels are 8 feet tall! How are people able to see the tiles at the top?
I had planned to visit this year from Australia, but with Covid restrictions, this not possible. Hopefully next year I will be able to visit and see my Legacy tile like I did on my last visit.
I’m looking forward to seeing my family’s pictures again! Quick question: our family is represented by two pictures that were originally next to each other. Will they still be together or have they been separated? Thanks!
Are the bricks from MK really on the new walkway? I thought they were destroyed, hence the selling of “commemorative tiles.”
I want to participate leave a legacy program.
Because I don’t have my picture.
The bricks from the magic kingdom are now part of the walkway from the Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian
I am so happy to know that my tile is on panel 11! I just need to visit it again someday…😉
With this coming back, will there be an opportunity to purchase new tiles?
Unfortunately, no, as the Leave a Legacy Program was discontinued in June 2007.
I would love to know if there will be an opportunity to add/purchase a new tile? I would love to have my family up there ❤️
What a great story! We have not visited our picture for many years but we will when/if we get back this year. Disney brings people together in more ways than one. It was meant to be!
So now that it’s coming back, will you be able to buy new tiles?
As good as these panels look, I’m disappointed that the original panels containing my picture, the actual panels that graced the front of Epcot for so many years, won’t be displayed.
What happened to the bricks at Magic Kingdom?
We put one there when our kids were little just wondering if we could find it or remodeling removed them. Would like to show grandkids 👍
Thanks for help
“Disney’s Walk Around the World” was retired when walkways near the Magic Kingdom Park and Transportation and Ticket Center were reconfigured.
Will there be opportunity to purchase new tiles?
This is wonderful..while I never did it, a few people I know did amd I will have to find their tiles!
Is there a way to view our pictures if they’re too high up for us to reach/see?
A great story. Thanks and congrats!
Will there be an opportunity for new photos?
I love this so much! I get to see my late grandparents again! Is this already up or will it be in the near future? Thank you
What a wonderful story and fabulous memory piece you have! I am so pleased for you and very glad that all the pictures and notes are back!
Now if only we could keep our bricks somehow…
This made my day. My sister and I have our picture on it. My sister passed away in 2018 and I can’t wait to return to see her legacy on the wall. She was my Disney partner. Thank you Disney!
This is cool. Too bad there not adding any new names for those of us that found out late about the program
This is a great story! I love how this Leave A Legacy has a new, more modern look but still holds on to sweet memories like this one!
Your story of meeting your husband made me so happy my eyes got wet. Thank you for sharing!
I am so glad these are Back! My Mother and I have a tile here and I was to see it leave. It reminds me of better days l!!!
That is the cutest story, what a great first date! The colors look great on these, I’m glad they found a way to still use them in an updated way.
I like the colors on the new installation and I’m glad they kept these for those that do have their pictures there.
