Earlier this week, we paid a visit to Tokyo Disney Sea to see how passenger vehicles are powered with clean energy for a responsible ride around American Waterfront. For today’s Field Notes episode, we’re heading to Hong Kong Disneyland where horticulturists are converting green waste to wood chips in an effort to efficiently improve soil health.

Wood chips serve as a “soil conditioner,” retaining soil temperature and moisture, while also helping to regulate weed and bacteria growth. The wood chipper program at Hong Kong Disneyland allows the greenery to grow while keeping the waste at a low. Let’s join Louis, Associate Horticulture Service Manager, to learn how wood chipping gave a second life to over 350 tons of green waste in 2020.

How much wood would a woodchip chip if a woodchip would chip wood? Over 350 tons at Hong Kong Disneyland in 2020! These ambitious efforts don’t stop at woodshop. Check out our 2030 environmental goals to get to the “root” of our efforts, and see what else we’re doing to plant a seed for positive change.
