Disney Genie Service to Reimagine the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort

We’re almost ready to let Disney Genie out of the lamp!

Coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney day. We’ve been listening to your feedback – you want planning to be easier, you want more flexibility and you want better tools to help you make the most of your visit – and that’s exactly what Disney Genie is here to do. We’ve made significant investments in this cool new technology, which guides you through our theme parks with tips that can help you reduce time in lines, discover magic around every corner and take the guesswork out of “what’s next.”

Built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, Disney Genie service will maximize your park time, so you can have more fun. It includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. From specific attractions, foodie experiences and entertainment, to general interests like Disney princesses, villains, Pixar, Star Wars, thrill rides and more – just tell Disney Genie what you want to do and it will do the planning for you.

Here are a few more features:

  • Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow.
  • Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions.
  • Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant and more.

For even more convenience and flexibility, there are two other options for enjoying our theme parks, through a queue we are introducing called the Lightning Lane entrance that also saves you time in line:

  • Disney Genie+ service (available for purchase): For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You can make one selection at a time, throughout the day – from classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability). This convenient option is the next evolution of the fan-favorite Disney MaxPass service from Disneyland Resort. Disney Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories – augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from your day if you are visiting Disneyland Resort.
  • Individual attraction selections (available for purchase): Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park (subject to limited availability; attractions not included with Disney Genie+). Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction and park and will be announced closer to launch.

Lightning Lane selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, great for those who love the Park Hopper option. Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility.

While the FASTPASS, FastPass+ and Disney MaxPass services will be retired, we’re incredibly excited about the flexibility and choices Disney Genie service provides. You can choose from all of our new options, a mix of them or none at all, and continue to have a great experience no matter how you decide to plan your best Disney day.

We are also making some enhancements to our Disability Access Service (DAS) program, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to our existing, in-person DAS program. Visit our Services for Guests with Disabilities page DisneyWorld.com and Disneyland.com for more details.

  • Not a fan of paying for FastPasses considering how much tickets cost. I just renewed my annual pass and couldn’t get the plus option to include water parks (us Typhoon Lagoon ever opening?). Genie+ should be included with annual passes or DVC.

  • So, are you reducing ticket prices to account for the loss of the FastPass+ amenity?

  • so paid fastpasses now? way to just suck all the magic out of the entire experience now

  • As someone travelling from the UK and coming for 14 nights, that’s an additional 240 dollars per person. 3 of us, our holiday now costs 720 dollars to enjoy the parks at their full potential. Terrible idea, clear cash grab and will be cancelling our holiday.

  • I’m “reimagining” a higher cost? Are you KIDDING?
First you dump the Wonderful Magical Express! NOW NO FAST PASSES?
WHAT DOES OUR PASS PARK ALLOW – ENTRY ONLY?
Tighten your belts somewhere else, this is getting out of hand now!

  • Am I the only one tired of being on my phone all day? From fastpasses to mobile ordering to checking wait times etc. It’s too much! We were just in Disneyland and we found ourselves “needing” our Disneyland app to do anything! We had to switch turning phones off just to save battery. I saw some people with portable chargers which seems stupid but it was probably the only way they could make sure they could do anything in the parks! It’s like there is no way around it. We had to mobile order at Disneyland and that one thing alone was killing our batteries so I had no pictures of Disneyland at night. I cannot imagine how it will be at Disney World when we are there next month. We will 100% have to have a charger of some sort.

  • Absolutely shameful that Disney have increased prices and now want you to pay for a fast pass. This will be expensive and sometimes impossible for many families. Whatever happened to the Disney magic? Unbelievable!

  • So no longer any benefit for WDW resort hotel guests?

  • This is very sad. I feel that the current leadership of this amazing company is taking everything that is magical out of Disney. This is just another example of how the average family of four that don’t make $150,000 or more are getting priced out of the Disney experience. Resort prices are astronomical as are ticket prices, and now guests have to shell out more money for an option that has always been included and for those that scrimp and save just be to able to come, have to shell out hundreds more to be able to use this new Genie+ option. I am a passholder and already feel that if I didn’t have my pass for my job, it is not worth the ungodly price tag for the few “perks” you get. I also find it interesting how much more expensive they are in comparison to other Theme Parks around them.

  • Thanks for nothing. Paying for FastPass access is incredibly tough to swallow.

  • Such a kick in the face for WDW guests and passholders! Ticket prices should go down since we are losing the complimentary fastpass service.

  • Disney is winning the battle to get me to spend my vacation dollars elsewhere. Grand Canyon sounds good.

  • So higher priced tickets, less entertainment unless you pay for an after hours event(also higher priced), higher priced food with reservations for most that are impossible le to get, cheaply made merchandise, and CMs that are not nearly as friendly as they use to be.
As a WDW AP holder now and an ex DL AP holder I’m very disappointed in the direction Disney has gone on ALL aspects.

  • Meh. Can’t wait to pay more for a diminished experience.

  • This is sad. I feel the current leadership is taking everything that is magical out of Disney. It feels like they are nickel and diming us to death. What is next having to pay for buses, trams, or the Skyliner? If you are a family that makes less then $150,000 a year you are getting priced out of the Disney experience. It is truly feeling like Disney is starting to cater to those that have disposable income and could care a flint for those that scrimp and save for years to be able to bring their families for 3 – 4 days. Resort and ticket prices are astronomical and now you are asking families to pay even more for a service that has always been included. I have family that have worked for Disney and directly for Walt Disney from the beginning so you could say it is in my blood, but I am finding it hard to justify spending my money on a company that seems to care more about making it’s stock holders money than the original mission of the parks. Walt said “Disneyland is a work of love. We didn’t go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.” Maybe they should remember that.

  • So basically a confusing paid fast-pass?! We love both Disney World AND Disneyland but we no longer visit Disney World because they have taken away so many amenities, and yet ticket prices stay the same or get higher. Now we’re cutting into Disneyland too. These were INCLUDED services with our tickets before! What’s next, paying for bathrooms? .25 per squirt of soap?!?

  • The pricing is RIDICULOUS! Bring back FastPass!!! The cost just isn’t realistic, especially for bigger families or people doing longer trips.

  • Will passholders be able to upgrade their passes to include this option on an annual and / or daily basis?

    • Hi Will! At launch, Passholders and Magic Key Holders will be able to purchase Disney Genie+ on the day of their visit. As always, we will continue to explore other enhancements as well and of course will appreciate their feedback when we launch the service.

  • While I don’t mind paying for genie since the price is comparable to maxpass, it seems like we are being charged $5 more per ticket at Disneyland and getting less value for our ticket. Is photopass included still? I don’t see mention of it. If we are being charged more and offered less then I don’t see the value in paying for this.

    • Disney Genie+ at Disneyland Resort does include unlimited PhotoPass downloads, as well as audio experiences.

  • We are DVC members (10+years) and Annual Passholders. We love Disney, but this is so disappointing. We are a family of 7 soon to be 8. That extra $15 dollars a person is over a hundred dollars a day for our family to have a service we have enjoyed FREE previously for years. We love add on services, but this is paying for a program we used to enjoy being INCLUDED in our ticket prices. This is NOT a cost we will justify. It’s sad, really. It used to be fun to wake up early and plan our Fastpasses… it was a rush to get the rides we wanted, now it just feels like money grab. Not so exciting.

  • There’s really no benefit to staying on-site. I was hoping that the fast pass would be free for Disney resort sites. This might be the last year we will do Disney. If we didn’t have our vacation booked and paid for in October, my husband was ready to cancel. Such a disappointment.

  • Yay!! Love this option!! Yes it might cost more but Disney aligning like all the other theme parks that only offer PAID express attraction riding. Nothing new out here peeps. Love this new feature!!

  • Awful! Just awful! Like it’s not expensive enough now we have to pay for fast pass. Disappointed!

  • This is so incredibly sad. My family has dedicated our lives and funds to the Disney organization. However, this nickel and diming particularly at WDW has gotten out of control. Fast Passes should be included so all families have the same opportunity to ride. Many families save up for years to go to a Disney Resort to make incredible memories. However, now it seems Disney is only focused on what they can charge. I deeply miss Iger.

  • Wow. I’ve been telling family and friends for ages about how great the Fastpass system was and how it made our whole trip so much better. Was planning on a trip down in the spring but now I’m wondering about how different our experience would be without it and whether it will be worth it. Only 2 a day even if you’re paying? That’s crazy.

  • This is so incredibly sad. All families should have access to FastPass upon arrival at a Disney park. Everything now seems to be how much they can charge, which is unfair to lower-income families who save for years for the opportunity of making Disney memories. I miss Iger.

  • Would love to know what “guest feedback” has been taken into consideration since all of the guest feedback I have read and seen on this is negative. Highly disappointed in this decision. Disney had so many perks and benefits for guests especially those that stay on property! It seems like I am paying more for much less. I have been visiting Disney yearly since 1990 as well as cruising only with Disney and had a Disney fairytale wedding and lately all I have been seeing is benefits taken away. No more magical express no more extra magic hours no more fastpass everything that made Disney magical gone! Now I have to pay to transport myself to the resort or pay to park pay increased resort fees increased ticket fees hope I can get a park reservation for the park I want god forbid I change my mind the morning of that I want to go to a different park instead that doesn’t seem like ease of planning to me and on top of all that I now I have to pay to guarantee I see certain attractions especially “E ticket” attractions which does not seem bad if you are a party of 1 but traveling with a family will add up quickly!! Looks like I will be spending more time in line just to see and do less especially less time eating snacking and shopping when I have to attempt to make it to the next attraction and budget my trip more. When will I start getting charged for Mickey’s autograph??? Here is to waiting in standby lines and hoping things change quickly or a new system is implemented.

  • I think the kiosks should still be available for “ fast pass” without making everyone pay to use the fast pass amenity and keep the app an option for those that want the convenience of selecting fast passes from their device. Is the photo pass included with the Genie?? I think that should be included in the price.

  • Devaluing the experience all the way around. No free parking at DisneyResorts. No more free Magical Express. No more free Fastpass. Sky high prices for special events. Merchandise quality is down the tubes, a t-shirt I bought in March and have worn 5 times has threads coming out all over the place and a hole in the arm now. A shirt I just bought in June is also unravelling thread all around the neck and bottom. Sad.

  • So, yet another perk from being a faithful Annual Pass holder is going away. Paid parking, no free magic band upon renewal, and now this!?! There should have been at least 3 passes/day for the AP and DVC members. Disney, you never fail to disappoint.

  • What is the price for pass holders? Is it included with being a passholder?

  • Why!? Not having to pay for FastPass was part of the Disney magic! Disney is becoming more like a generic theme park every year.

  • We are going in November. 4 of us already bought our tickets. 2 of us are passholders. Does this mean we can’t get this service? I hate that more cost is involved in a Disney trip now. You keep catering to the rich!

  • Why oh why…does Disney not spellcheck grammar and spelling…finding many mistakes on info pages.! Reported a few years ago and it still is occurring. Who is in charge?

  • Disgusted. I don’t want to pay more just to get ahead of the lines. Nothing was wrong with the fast pass system. How will this work for my platinum pass?

  • So being an annual pass member for years & a DVC member gets us nothing extra anymore. It’s obviously all about the money for Disney and not just the experience. When is enough money enough?

  • I’ve been a long time annual pass holder and completely disagree with paying for fast passes. It was a nice perk that was included .

  • This is not a new magical enhancement. The magic about Disney was that fast passes were free unlike the competition. It is getting more expensive to enjoy the magic. Like a previous comment, will you be lowering ticket prices? Will this be complementary for hotel guests or DVC members. Eventually Disney will only be able to be afforded by the elite. Very disappointed in this news.

  • So no more advance attraction reservations. COVID concerns aside, I am now more likely to cancel my trip scheduled for November.

  • Platinum pass holders for over 15 years. Fast passes have allowed us to plan our visits, along with dining and resorts stays so visits were more enjoyable and relaxing. Cost of passes included fast passes in cost. Have been coming to Disney world since 1971 and 1973 and children and children have grown up at parks. I think we’ve probably spent over six months of nights in various Disney hotels . This is a huge disappointment I honestly don’t know if we will renew our passes in February. 2022. Sorry to see Disney follow the greedy path of other non Disney theme parks. Fast passes were especially useful when we had our adult children and grandchildren with us. See you real soon???????????

  • This is the most horrible thing I have ever seen. So on top of $10,000 to go the park this November I now have to spend even more money for fast pass. This may well be my last trip to any Disney park.

  • What about benefits for annual pass holders? Universal has a pass that allows annual pass holders to use the fast lane after 4pm.

  • We vacation at Disney World every year and struggle more and more to afford it. We honeymooned there in 1975, took our kids annually, spent our 25th anniversary there and are planning our 50th. Disney, you are pricing us out and this paying for fast passes is probably the last straw. It already costs over $100.00 per day per person to stand in any line in your parks. This will likely end over 60 years ( we spent our childhood at Disneyland) of magic.

  • Ending 60 years of Disney magic for this old girl. You are pricing me out. Disney has become a private club for the wealthy.

  • This is so frustrating! When I originally booked my holiday pre covid which had to moved like many others, I was getting a dining plan, magical express, Disney gift cards and Fastpass. Now all of these perks are gone and I am paying even more for the same holiday. Where are all the perks, we are no longer getting what we originally booked its not what we were sold. Not feeling very magical anymore.

  • I’m beginning to think Disney is actually trying to get less people to come there. Of course except for the ones who are willing to pay extra for everything. So sad!

  • So fastpasses used to be free and a perk of paying way extra to stay on property was to book them way far in advance. Looks like disney is taking away every perk on property except proximity while increasing prices. We are definitely going to be considering staying off property which we never have before

  • I find this appalling. We just got back from WDW and the prices of everything have already gone through the roof. So let’s charge even more so that the average family of four can no longer afford to go. Let’s make it a park for the rich. Far from Walt’s dream. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • Also, why are we having to pay additional fees for specific attractions?? All attractions should be included in the Genie +! You’re already paying $100 plus for tickets and if you want the lightening pass it’s extra. That’s fine but stop gouging for more money after that.

  • So now Guests have to keep track and navigate FOUR different types of ride queues?? Standby, Virtual, Genie+, AND Lightening Lanes? The inconvenience and the nickel-and-dimeing is beyond comprehension now. If your goal is for less people that want to come to the parks, then job well done.
