Disney Genie Service to Reimagine the Guest Experience at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort

We’re almost ready to let Disney Genie out of the lamp!

Coming this fall to Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie is a complimentary and convenient new digital service designed to create your best Disney day. We’ve been listening to your feedback – you want planning to be easier, you want more flexibility and you want better tools to help you make the most of your visit – and that’s exactly what Disney Genie is here to do. We’ve made significant investments in this cool new technology, which guides you through our theme parks with tips that can help you reduce time in lines, discover magic around every corner and take the guesswork out of “what’s next.”

Built right into the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, Disney Genie service will maximize your park time, so you can have more fun. It includes a personalized itinerary feature that will quickly and seamlessly map out an entire day. From specific attractions, foodie experiences and entertainment, to general interests like Disney princesses, villains, Pixar, Star Wars, thrill rides and more – just tell Disney Genie what you want to do and it will do the planning for you.


Here are a few more features:

  • Get Itinerary Updates from Morning to Night: Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout your day, so you can be more spontaneous and go with the flow.
  • Find Your Favorites at a Glance: Create your very own personal tip board to instantly see your favorites. It will display current AND forecasted future wait times, helping you predict when you might experience quicker entry to attractions.
  • Enjoy More Flexibility and Fun: Disney Genie brings existing planning features together in one place. Join a virtual queue at certain attractions, make dining and experience reservations, mobile order food at many locations, get help from a virtual assistant and more.

For even more convenience and flexibility, there are two other options for enjoying our theme parks, through a queue we are introducing called the Lightning Lane entrance that also saves you time in line:

  • Disney Genie+ service (available for purchase): For the price of $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World Resort and $20 per ticket per day at Disneyland Resort, choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You can make one selection at a time, throughout the day – from classics like Haunted Mansion to thrill rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and newer favorites like Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (attractions subject to limited availability). This convenient option is the next evolution of the fan-favorite Disney MaxPass service from Disneyland Resort. Disney Genie+ will also include Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories – augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort and unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads from your day if you are visiting Disneyland Resort.
  • Individual attraction selections (available for purchase): Schedule a time to arrive at up to two highly demanded attractions each day using the Lightning Lane entrance – like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park and Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure park (subject to limited availability; attractions not included with Disney Genie+). Pricing for this option will vary by date, attraction and park and will be announced closer to launch.

Lightning Lane selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, great for those who love the Park Hopper option. Attractions continue to offer a traditional standby queue, or a virtual queue at certain attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – to maximize flexibility.

While the FASTPASS, FastPass+ and Disney MaxPass services will be retired, we’re incredibly excited about the flexibility and choices Disney Genie service provides. You can choose from all of our new options, a mix of them or none at all, and continue to have a great experience no matter how you decide to plan your best Disney day.

We are also making some enhancements to our Disability Access Service (DAS) program, including new options to enroll in the program pre-arrival and for DAS participants to select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to our existing, in-person DAS program.   • This is great! I just wish you were able to pay for more than 2 Lighting Lanes in a day. All the people who are whining should enjoy the experience you get included in the ticket. If you want more then you need to pay just like every other park. Stop acting like you are owed something.

  • +1 for voicing my disappointment at increasing the nickel-and-diming of guests for the access to what has been a free amenity for decades with FastPass. Doubly so in light of the predictably large increases in base ticket prices on a yearly basis. I always appreciated that Disney did -not- create a “better experience for those who can pay”class-ism with the original FastPass system like other chains opted to do, and I am sad to see that is coming to an end.

  • How is this supposed to work with annual pass holders? I agree with others: paid fast passes is not a positive development – especially when people have already invested in DVC and annual passes.

  • You listened to no one… you took away fast passes under the guise of the pandemic and you used it to find a way to charge us even more. What a joke.

  • Well Disney finally did it. I have taken my family every year since 1998 for at least a week. Some years we took multiple trips. I am done. Disney can kiss my eleven grand a year goodbye. I will never take my family again. They have taken me for granted and I will send my money other places. I expect better from Disney. They are supposed to lead the industry not follow it. I will cancel my November 2021 trip in the next couple of days..

  • Yeah, DON’T like. After decades of offering included fast passes, Disney has decided to go for the money grab on top of the already increasing prices. They seem to want to thin the herd to those who can throw away their money rather than save it for a family dream vacation. Walt sat on a bench and dreamed of a place family members of all ages and walks of life could come together and enjoy experiences. His legacy appears to now only be for those fools who can throw cash at a roadblock to pure consumption rather than work for it. No thanks.

  • While the rumors have be e been flying around for a while now I was sure hoping it wasn’t true! DVC owners and AP’s for many years. To say this is disappointing would be an understatement! I guess I think we have purchased our last annual park pass. We will be spending a lot more time at the resorts. Hilton Head and Vero Beach here we come.

  • I was a pass holder and LOVED Maxpass, but it was $10/day not $20 PLUS you could just add it yearly to your annual pass, really seems like both Genie and Magic Key are both more expensive downgrades and that’s really unfortunate!

  • I already purchased tickets for a January 2022 trip will I be able to add on Genie+ To
    My tickets ? If so will that be an app option or will have to call to do it? Thank you

  • So in order to utilize the equivalent Fastpass+ system with Genie+, a family of 4 with a 4-day park hopper is going to have to spend $320 on top of their park admissions?!?! I love Disney World but…..And why doesn’t Genie+ include unlimited Photopass downloads at Disney World as it does at Disneyland?

  • How does this work with a group of people? If a few families are connected in the app, does only one person have to sign up for a specific time for a ride for everyone (assuming everyone purchased Genie+)? Or does each “family” have to do it?

  • Well we all knew this was coming…but what I’m not a fan of is the fact that it seems there’s really no advance planning involved. I’m a planner for sure. Making FP’s 60 days in advance? LOVED it, knowing that I had a sure thing: three rides for a certain day, time and park and I liked not having to worry about all of that once I arrived at WDW Resort. Why would I want to pay $15 pp, wake up at 7 AM just for the app to fail because so many other guests are trying to make their Genie+ plans at the same time? I’m on vacation, not sleep away camp where everyone gets up at the crack of dawn. I dunno Disney. I like to pay for a sure thing if money is involved. This new system seems like a big game of risk and I’m not certain I want to take that gamble.

  • I’ll be at the park the week of September 13th, with my park reservation days the 14th-16th. I bought my 3 day ticket in December, 2019 with MaxPass. If Genie rolls out before I’m there, will the fact I’ve already purchased the Lightning benefits on a wholly unused ticket be honored? I understand if there’s no answer yet, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

    As a guest who qualifies for the DAS options, I love the planned updates to the service. Being able to enroll virtually for my next Disney World trip would be fantastic. I’m doubtful all of this will be live by the time I’m there.

  • DVC and annual pass holder for many years. Seems like most of our perks are gone. Don’t agree with this . Guess will have to suck it up when grandchildren are with us. But will be reducing our trips I guess .

    Tough to justify when you are retired . Was shocked at the cost of the Christmas party so skipping that.

  • It makes me sad. Part of what made Disney Special was the fairness of things like fast pass being included in the park ticket. Sad to see Disney becoming more like the other parks where people with disposable income get the perks. Agree that it makes it all less magical…especially for families who were already stretching a dollar to come to this special place.

  • We just renewed our annual passes. We’re already our own Genie’s because we just look at wait times on the app as soon as we finish a ride to know where to go next. NOW I HAVE TO PAY DISNEY EVEN MORE FOR FASTPASSES?!? It’s time to re-evaluate how passholders are treated.

  • This should be included for annual pass holders and or DVC members. Or just in the tickets period because the tickets keep going up and the Disney experience keeps getting more and more expensive. There was nothing wrong with the fast passes or just the stand by lines this past year because Disney wasn’t catering to one line and the lines moved faster without the fast pass line. Now people who can barely afford the tickets WILL wait even longer for their turn on a ride. Sad just sad!

  • This is just adding more money on to the most expensive ticket prices in the industry. I always argued that Disney gave free fast passes as a justification of the high price of the day ticket. Well, no more. Pay for your ticket, pay per person per day for some but not all rides, and pay yet again for the most popular e ticket rides. Sounds like a focus on profit rather than magic or guest satisfaction.

  • So disappointed by this announcement. What’s the incentive now for staying onsight at a Disney world resort? It feels like Disney continues to take away from the experience and add additional cost on top of high ticket prices.

  • I think I could live with the $15 per day per ticket, but the two lightning passes for higher demand rides is going to be in addition to the $15 a day. So, depending on what those will cost, we are looking at a much higher price than $15 per day per ticket. I feel this is pricing the ordinary family out of the passes all together.

  • I have tickets for the anniversary and Boo Bash. I am seriously thinking about cancelling because of all the stuff Chapek has done in the last year to Disney. You took away ANY perk given for staying on site. You charge double for smaller, shorter, experiences than pre-covid. No dining plan, you can’t reserve your restaurants ahead of everyone else. There are no more extended hours at night unless you’re mega-rich and staying at a deluxe. Not only did you take Fast Passes away, but now you’re charging for them. The reason lines move right now is because FP people aren’t being funneled into the stand-by line people. Once you put FP/LLs back the standby line is going to be gridlocked.
    I have never before seen one man run a company into the ground and alienate the die-hard fans and an entire segment of the population (the middle class) in such a short period of time. Disney nostalgia is going to be wrecked by all this. I really regret the fact that I have told my kids about this trip as this is the final straw and I would love to back out without breaking hearts of kids who don’t understand what’s going on.

  • I have unused Canadian resident tickets with Maxpass. Will I be able to transfer the Maxpass that’s paid for to the new Genie +. We plan on coming in October. Our tickets were extended to Dec. 16, 2021

  • I have to say I’m disappointed. As a family of 6 that travelled to WDW annually we already spend a lot. Now we have to pay for airport transportation and also another $90 per day in order to get what used to be included.
    I mean, I get it. You want to maximize your profit, but ‘aligning with the other theme parks’ is a really crummy bar to aim for. In the past we stayed on Disney property because even though our children would enjoy universal, what Disney offered stood out. The difference is less obvious to me right now.

  • The FREE Disney Genie sounds marvelous!!!! Thanks. Anything that involves more money is out!!!! Could I ?—— yes….. will I?—— ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! It’s the principle!!!! All these extra charges are nothing but GREED… we r DVC members /AKA guarantee return customers/ and get very few perks in return …… mostly more charges. Definitely not magical!!!!! I sincerely hope someone pays attention to this ….. MULTIPLE responses eco same thoughts

  • Will standby lines still be a thing? Not virtual lines. Real standby.

    • Attractions will continue to offer either a traditional standby queue or a virtual queue at certain attractions. Most attractions offer a traditional standby queue.

  • Should I cancel my photopass if I am planning on getting this Genie + and Lightening Lane? Going to Walt Disney World.

  • The fast past system was more fair. I don’t like this new system. So only people with more money (like first class in planes), can get short wait times in line. A family of 4 is $80 more a day. It won’t affect people on vacation for a few days, much, but it will affect passholders, a lot. Please add back Fastpass and Maxpass. For Fastpass, you could scan your phone at each ride location instead of using paper. Thank you.

  • Wow- fast passes are now only available for an extra fee… I was always quite proud that WDW was allowing equal access to rides, unlike other parks. This reinforces our decision to buy fewer park days. Extra access for rich people….. nice…

  • Disney just keeps making it harder and harder to come back. I know Disney operates under the assumption that they can do whatever they want and people will keep coming. I promise that is not the case. I have seen and heard from so many people in recent years that they have sold their DVC membership, dropped annual passes, or just stopped returning to the parks completely, due to all of the “new” added costs. It really is getting out of hand. Maybe Disney could keep their “magical Genie” service and I’ll keep my money and plan things for my family the way I always have. If you want to pay for a glorified travel agency service to help you plan your trip that’s fine but don’t penalize the rest of us that attend your park’s multiple times a year and understand how to plan a trip. This is another catastrophic FAIL.

  • Well that’s kind of unfortunate. Given how busy the park is and how expensive the tickets are. It’s kind of a buzz kill.

  • Wow! Increased theme park parking fees, daily parking fees at resorts and now paying for fast pass. Just dropped $1300 for four 2 day hopper passes. Now you want another $120 for a fast pass. Please put the genie back in the bottle!

  • Will I be able to add Genie + to an existing WDW vaction package? Will lightning lane be available to me as well? Already booked for 2/1/22-2/10/22

  • Disney tries to put a positive spin every time new costs are added to a visit. This is getting worse and worse, paying to park at your resort, eliminating Magical Express transportation and now paying for ” fast pass” Label it whatever you want, but all it comes down to is a higher cost to travel to Disney parks. Very disappointing!

  • This is very sad. Not sure we can afford to stay onsite anymore with this added expense. There was nothing wrong with the original paper fastpass system that we first used as a family in 2001. So wish we could go to Disney next year – not sure now. Hopefully there are some sweet room discounts that come out.

  • Disney continues to raise prices asnits removing more of the magic. I have been an annual pass, dvc member for years. I never thought I would actually consider selling my dvc points (650) and not spending my $ here anymore. Sorry Disney but you need to rethink your business plan. I realize I am only one person but I doubt I am alone.

  • Just because you lost a lot of money from the closure of the parks due to Covid, is no reason to slam everyone with increased prices for everything and additional prices for all features. You take away Magical Express and airline services, but you didn’t decrease the pricing of anything. I am a dissatisfied DVC member.

  • With the Fast Pass service I felt like I didn’t need to worry because I would get on the ride I wanted easily. Will that still be the case.
