One of my favorite Disney mottos is, “All you need is a little faith, trust and pixie dust,” from Walt Disney’s “Peter Pan.” As a child, I remember running around my bedroom, arms outstretched, pretending to fly above the skies of London on my way to Never Land.

In “Peter Pan,” pixie dust is tangible. But I think pixie dust symbolizes much more—it’s anything that fills you with surprise, joy and wonder. And, if there’s one group of cast members at Walt Disney World Resort who know all about the meaning of pixie dust, it’s the Magic Backstage team.

Magic Backstage is a year-round, sweepstakes program just for cast members that offers once-in-a-lifetime prizes and experiences to cast around Walt Disney World. This small team is dedicated to creating magical moments for as many cast members as possible, and they’ve got even more planned as part of The World’s Most Magical Celebration.

Throughout the next 18 months, the Magic Backstage team is designing special EARidescent Moments that place cast members at the heart of The World’s Most Magical Celebration. One of the team’s favorite ways to make magic is visiting backstage areas in a new EARidescent van, where they surprise cast with 50th anniversary-themed prizes. These moments are emotional, special and full of the purest kind of pixie dust. And, the team plans to visit more backstage areas than ever during the celebration.

It’s clear that the Magic Backstage team creates incredible moments that fill cast members with pixie dust. And I, for one, can’t wait to see what other EARidescent Moments this team creates next.

  • Reminds me of when I was awarded a Spirit of Disneyland Award in 1995 (still one of my most cherished possessions). When I got the letter telling me to show up at the Golden Horseshoe in the early AM to be presented with the award, I shed tears of joy.

As Walt said, it takes people to make the dream a reality. And I am still proud, all these years later, to have been recognized as one of those people. And I’m glad that Disney is still finding a way to recognize those who make other people happy and spread Disney magic. The magic is real because of the people who work very hard to MAKE it real.
