Lunar New Year celebrates the celestial journey of the sun and the moon on their voyage toward another year. This special festival invites you to make memories with your family and friends while sharing wishes for good health, luck and prosperity throughout the year to come.
Here’s a look at some of the excitement that you can expect during the celebration!
This year, “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession” introduces a gorgeous new float that Mulan and Mushu arrive upon, accompanied by traditional Chinese drummers with powerful rhythms and performers bringing cultural artistry and dance to life. Decorated in red and gold to symbolize good fortune and happiness, the float features bright bunches of red firecrackers with golden tassels, and delicate red and gold lanterns that come aglow for after-sunset performances.
The Paradise Garden Bandstand presents daily live performances featuring enchanting traditional musical instruments, along with Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese folk dancers. The San Francisco-based musical group Melody of China performs a fusion of Chinese folk, classical and contemporary instrumentals.
Enjoy special appearances by Disney characters at the Paradise Gardens Gazebo, where you may spot Tigger, Mulan and Mushu, Mickey and Minnie, and the Three Little Pigs – all dressed in their festive finery.
Raya, from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “Raya and the Last Dragon,” makes her official debut at the Disneyland Resort during the Lunar New Year celebration! Under a forest canopy deep in the heart of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, you may encounter the heroic Raya, greeting new friends and visiting from the newly reunited lands of Kumandra.
Festive Lunar New Year Marketplaces offer a tantalizing array of Asian-inspired dishes with a Disney twist. For a terrific value on this epicurean adventure, you may choose to take advantage of the popular Sip and Savor pass*, which provides six coupons, redeemable for select food and nonalcoholic beverages at participating locations such as Longevity Noodle Co., the Lucky 8 Lantern, Red Dragon Spice Traders, Lucky Fortune Cookery and more!
For all the delicious details, check out the Lunar New Year Foodie Guide.
Colorful Lunar New Year décor symbolizes good luck, fortune and happiness in bold red and brilliant gold, with banners wishing “Happy Lunar New Year” featuring Disney characters.
Stroll beneath strings of ornamental lanterns at the Lucky Wishes Wall to share your own special wishes of hope, health and happiness that roar with confidence for the Year of the Tiger. Then, enjoy complimentary arts and crafts, such as coloring a “Dragon’s Pearl” and Chinese calligraphy with local artisans.
Special Lunar New Year mementos are available for purchase while supplies last, including an adorable Mickey Mouse plush, Spirit Jersey, tees and tumbler.
What’s more, the Lunar New Year celebration continues at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort and the Downtown Disney District.
Over at Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, Chef Goofy gives a nod to Lunar New Year by adding both spicy chicken and pork belly bao buns to the buffet, while over at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, tasty treats are plentiful on the lobby cart with Mickey Mouse-shaped, tiger-striped sugar cookies, lantern whoopie pies and assorted pretzel sticks.
At Downtown Disney District, see the beautiful new Lunar New Year mural created by Disney Live Entertainment Associate Art Director Elizabeth Lisa Kang, whose talents have contributed to a variety of productions and attractions at Disney Parks around the world. To capture the energy of this holiday, Kang was inspired by scenes from traditional “minwha,” or “painting of the people,” which portray the customs and spirit of everyday life in Korea. Her expressive piece depicts celebration and hope for the coming year.
Also in Downtown Disney District, pop by the colorful new shop, Lovepop, which offers two different pop-up greeting card designs, a cherry blossom tree and an elegant red lantern, to celebrate Lunar New Year!
