“They’re going!” Special Olympics USA Games athletes are getting the “I’m Going to Disney World’’ style Super Bowl treatment ahead of the 2022 Games, which kick off Sunday, June 5 throughout Central Florida.
In a spinoff of Disney’s popular “I’m Going to Disney World’’ Super Bowl campaign, ESPN and Walt Disney World Resort partnered to feature several Special Olympics USA Games athletes in a national commercial airing on ESPN and social media sites around the country this week. You may recognize the voice of this spot as it’s Robin Roberts from “Good Morning America!”

On Friday, June 3, those same athletes will appear in a welcome parade at Magic Kingdom Park featuring popular Disney characters, confetti and magical entertainment as part of the final leg of the official Special Olympics USA Games Law Enforcement Torch Run that began in Chicago and ends at Exploria Stadium in downtown Orlando. It’ll be a festive scene reminiscent of Disney championship celebrations that regularly feature some of the biggest names in sports history.
The super-sized celebration of the Special Olympics USA Games adds to Walt Disney World Resort’s long history of supporting Special Olympics, which has staged various events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex year after year. The majority of the competitions at this year’s USA Games are taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex and Disney Live Entertainment is producing the Special Olympics USA Games Opening Ceremony, which will be televised on ABC and streamed on the ESPN App and ESPN 3 on June 5.
Coverage of the Special Olympics USA Games also includes programs on Tuesday, June 7, and Wednesday, June 8 on ESPN2 and the ESPN App, live streaming coverage on ESPN3 throughout the week, and a “Best of the Special Olympics USA Games” special on ABC, ESPN3 and the ESPN App on Sunday, June 12.
