The Disney Springs Art Walk, A Canvas of Expression, continues to grow and we are excited to bring even more artists to the experience. It makes me so happy to see the walls filled with colorful works of art – art that highlights individuality and shares diverse stories. And what better time to honor that spirit than during our Pride Month celebration. We encourage guests and cast alike to Share Your Pride as we recognize and spotlight the contributions and stories of the LGBTQIA+ community, including two artists whose works are now on display at Disney Springs.

Last month Chad Mize was part of the launch of the Art Walk, hand-painting his piece in person to kick off this new experience. Now as we round out June, we’re thrilled to welcome the artwork of Dom Corona to the Walk – and are grateful to both artists for sharing their stories and talents with us.

Artist Chad Mize with his Disney Springs art work

Chad Mize is a multimedia artist, designer and muralist residing in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2018, Mize opened the gallery MIZE in the Historic Uptown neighborhood of St. Petersburg. With a love for past and contemporary culture, he takes a humorous, tongue-in-cheek approach to his designs. His piece at the Art Walk is called “SAY IT WITHOUT SAYING IT.” Chad shared that he wanted to create a piece that is true to himself, the most natural form of himself. He says, “These characters and icons are me! Images I draw all the time. I want to stand for my community and say it without saying it!”

What message do you hope to share through your work?

“My goal with all my work is to inspire and uplift the viewer. When I was working on the piece, I heard a lot of ‘awesome,’ ‘love the colors,’ ‘this makes me so happy’ comments as people were walking by. With everything going on in the world today, my hope is to use my art to bring a smile and change to the world. This project is definitely a high note in my 21-year freelance career, and I want to thank Disney for the opportunity.”

What does magic mean to you?

“Magic to me is living your true self. Not hiding. Standing out. Working towards your dream. Living your best life and inspiring others through it.”

Artist Dom Corona with his Disney Springs art work

Dom Corona is a self-taught artist and lifelong Disney fan. During a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2008, an artist drew Donald Duck for him, adding the words “To Dominick, future Disney artist.” In 2021 he was asked to be part of the Disney Creators Lab and now is impassioned to embark on a new journey with Disney Fine Art. His work of textured brush strokes and his keen eye for color creates an explosive and unique style. This piece is titled “Proud Original.” Dom is excited to be a part of the Art Walk and hopes visitors take time to appreciate the time, thought and passion that these talented artists have put into their pieces. He shared, “as for my piece specifically, I just want people to know it was created with the intent to make them smile!”

What message do you hope to share through your work?

“’Proud Original’ is about embracing one’s true being and appreciating self-worth. Over the years, we’ve seen the world’s most beloved character change and evolve in so many ways – yet he only becomes more loved and more valuable. Applying this theory to our own lives, it’s so important to be most proud of whoever you currently are as nobody can discount the value you’ve given yourself.”

What does magic mean to you?

“Simple and not overthought, magic is kindness.”

Be sure to stop by the Disney Springs Art Walk, located near the Town Center bus loop, to see Chad and Dom’s art. Share Your Pride, and your selfies or snaps of the artwork, with #DSArtWalk. Stay tuned for more artists as we continue the ongoing transformation of this experience!
