It’s National Goof Off Day and if you believe those who say a little goofing off is actually good for productivity, health and stress levels, then you may want to follow what Disney’s very own Goofy has been up to over the years!
Yes, today we’re digging into our archives again for smiles and to find examples of hijinks from Goofy that remind us that it’s fine to take a little break, have some fun and enjoy the lighter side of life.
Back in 1988, Goofy decided to sport a ton of sports equipment at Magic Kingdom Park in a photo that hilariously fits National Goof Off Day! We count 10 different outdoor activities (including football, basketball and soccer) that he’s ready to give a go at Walt Disney World.
According to records, National Goof Off Day was originally started by a curious 10-year-old who liked to try fun things outside of the normal day-to-day. And that’s exactly what Goofy was doing in 1983 when he was photographed water skiing on Disney waters.
Back in 1984, Goofy embraced today’s goof off mantra to let loose and had some fun on the scenic miniature motorway at Tomorrowland Speedway in Magic Kingdom Park. In a bright blue speedster, Goofy was buckled up and ready to race his way to happiness.
Of all sports, some believe golf is the best to relax, unwind and just escape it all on National Goof Off Day. Goofy was dressed for the occasion in a 1983 photo during what probably started as a leisurely round.
During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, chances are you’ll see Goofy goofing around. And at a Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, Goofy was photographed enjoying the holiday celebration on a giant candy contraption!
During a Disney cruise, you can bet there’s always a little extra silliness to be had with Goofy onboard. On the Disney Wish in 2022, Goofy was all ears for anyone up for goofing around on the ship.
And sometimes, on a day like National Goof Off Day, it’s just fine to pause and slow down away from work, school or whatever your day-to-day is. As Winnie the Pooh says, “doing nothing leads to the very best of something” and that’s something Goofy cherished in 2005 while soaking up some sun at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort.
