Captain EO Returns to Disneyland Resort

posted on December 18th, 2009 by Heather Hust Rivera, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, The Walt Disney Company

Twenty-three years ago, at the height of his phenomenal entertainment career, Michael Jackson joined forces with Disney to create “Captain EO,” a groundbreaking 17-minute 3D film experience.

We are excited to confirm that the classic musical spectacular that thrilled Disneyland park guests from 1986 – 1997, will return for an exclusive, limited engagement at Disneyland park beginning in February 2010!
Captain EO Returns
The attraction’s return to Tomorrowland will provide new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see “The King of Pop” in a rare performance created for the big-screen, just one more time.

Honey I Shrunk The Audience” will be closing sometime in the next few weeks to make way for the Captain’s return.

Check back here for more details on “Captain EO.”

omg yes finally we get this awsome ride back. now hopefully we can get disney to keep it going again. i think more people would love this show to come back perminantly and replace the overdue honey i shrunk the audience which is a lame show. but having michael back at disneyland is really awsome! hopefully i can see it in june.

The fact is, I don’t think this ever would have been revived if Michael Jackson hadn’t died. In life he remained a controversial figure, but in death that shroud of controversy has faded. The concert film THIS IS IT was very popular critically and commercially and this all set the stage for the return of CAPTAIN EO.

Its nice that the attraction is coming back for the fans but please do not change your mind and make it permanent. Disneyland is limited in space and bringing back a 3d movie that is older than what is replacing is not the direction the park should take. Let all the fans relive the experience of the attraction and then use the space wisely for a new updated attraction. Lets just hope the rumors are not true about Monster Inc laugh factory being a possible attraction for that space. I rather you guys bring back Honey before installing that awefull attraction found in WDW

I am making plans to go to Disneyland to see Captain EO in February, and contacted Disneyland customer service to verify dates. I was told that it is not going to be shown at Disneyland in February. Can someone let me know what the confirmed dates are for Captain EO’s return to the Magic Eye theater?

Nia on January 15th, 2010 at 4:17 pm

I remember seeing Captain EO in 1987 with my Wife & Daughter.
My daughter was 3 years old at the time, she got so frightened my wife had to take her out of the theatre. I stayed and watched it all.I thought it was fantastic. I even bought the poster. Do you think it will go to Disney World by March 9th 2010 because we’ll be on vacation at that time.
