Mexico Pavilion Dining Update

We just heard more details and got a peek at the menus for the all-new La Hacienda de San Angel and the adjacent La Cantina de San Angel. La Cantina gets a facelift and stays!
Cantina de San Angel Expansion at Epcot

The new 250-seat La Hacienda will only be open for dinner and expands the South-of-the Border offerings. La Cantina opens daily at 11 a.m. with 150 outdoor seats.

The new La Cantina menu will initially offer chicken and beef tacos on fresh handmade corn tortillas, nachos, a cheese empanada, guacamole and chips and churros.

La Hacienda will open daily at 4 p.m. and the initial menu will feature starters like queso fundido (warm cheese with poblano pepper and chorizo); a taco trio with rib eye, roasted chicken and pork; and traditional black bean soup. Entrées include a mixed grill for two with flank steak, chicken, chorizo and vegetables (a seafood version features grouper, shrimp and scallops); roasted shrimp in pepper garlic broth; flank steak with spring onions, refried beans and cactus leaves; and grilled red snapper with roasted corn and cactus leaves. Dessert? Chocolate churros, sweet tamales and fruit empanadas.

Delicioso!

  • Now, just to be clear…. The Cantena is being renovated and will have extra seating outside for more views of the Illunation. Correct? As far as I know, they are not taking reservations as of today, because I just tried and no one at reservations knows when they will begin. And as far as you know, it will open in the fall. Am I on the same page with everyone? Just making sure! I would really like to get a reservation as soon as they become available. Would love to know asap when reservations will begin! This sounds like something new and fabulous for our family who goes every year!

  • Hello. We are coming from Belgium and i wanted to know if the restaurant inside he Mexico pavillion was still open. I have made a reservation online a couple of weeks ago. thanks in advance.

  • Ryan, I really can’t see the San Angel Inn closing. There are plenty of Epcot pavilions with two table service restaurants. Japan, France and soon Italy will all have two sit-down restaurants as well. Lagoon-side seating is nice, but so is sitting in air conditioning right next to a boat ride. The San Angel Inn is the closest thing in atmosphere that Walt Disney World has to Disneyland’s Blue Bayou.

  • Will there be gluten free options here?

    • Menu is still in development…will pass along the question!

  • Is La Cantina still open thru the summer or is it also closed?

    • Closed for renovations!

  • I’m a bit confused, one respondent indicated that she already had reservations for December but when I call WDW DINE they are telling me they are not yet taking reservations. Can you clarify and if not at this time when? Thank you

    • Not yet in reservations system.

  • Will the seating in La Cantina be reserved seating or open seating for the evening meal?

    • No reservations for La Cantina; but reservations for La Hacienda.

  • Yum Nachos and Churros. My favorite place to eat at Epcot!

  • Any word on when this is going to open? Definitely looking forward to eating here! We LOVE San Angel Inn!

    • In the fall, definite date not set.

  • I agree with Ryan from NY. The Tequila Bar needs more room – it’s too small and fills up rather quickly especially on the weekends and during Illuminations.

San Angel Inn is just too dark for family’s our dining pleasure as well. I hope there is some decent lighting in the new La Hacienda. Nothing’s worse then guessing what you’re about to eat.

  • When will this be available in the Online Reservation System. Only San Angel Inn comes up.

    • Still working out details, stay tuned!

  • Been waiting for queso fundido to show up ever since it was removed from the San Angel Inn menu. Great news!

  • Already have reservations for December. Can’t wait!

  • If I was a betting man, I would say that once the Hacienda opens, San Angel Inn closes. I’d say they would split the San Angel space in half and use some for more retail and the rest as an expansion of the adjoining tequilla bar. With the draw of seating by the lagoon for Illuminations, I don’t think there would be much demand for yet another Mexican sit down restaurant that’s inside the pavilion.

  • Any chance of an earlier opening or a preview in the end of August?

  • Will the current San Angel Inn remain open during these renovations? And when will the construction take place? We have ADR’s for San Angel Inn for the first week of December 2010… wondering if we should change our plans!

    • San Angel stays open…expansions open in the fall.

  • When are the renovations supposed to be completed and the new restaurants opened?

    • In time for Food & Wine Festival!

  • Are there vegetarian options? Even something as simple as having beans sub for beef would be great. This restaurant was really missing this previously.

    • Menu still in development, but there will be vegetarian options.

  • I am excited for this. is there an opening date set yet?

    • Fall, exact date not yet set.

  • When do they open to the public?

    • Opens this fall!

  • oh good, gives us something to eat at Mexico pavilion now – we were *very* disappointed at the menu change in San Angel Inn a few years ago. The quick place did not offer a good variety of vegetarian options.
Look forward to trying the new food out.

  • Just so you know, the spanish word for “the” is “La”. so when you say “The La Cantina” you’re really saying “The the drink”… you can just say “La Cantina opens daily.”

  • Sounds interesting. How will this affect the San Angel Resturant inside the pavillion?

    • San Angel stays; they may tweak the menu, but all three eateries will be operating.

  • Can’t wait! Do we know if the dining plan applies to both La Cantina and La Hacienda?

    • Still working on those details!
