Our Favorite Dishes at Disneyland Resort

Choosing a favorite dish is sort of like choosing a favorite child: depends on the day of the week which I like best. But here goes, 10 delicious “dishes of the moment” at Disneyland Resort.

C’mon, tell us your favorite Disneyland dish!

  1. The tender, pan-roasted diver scallops with a lobster-lemon sauce with a hint of vanilla at Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. We dream of these buttery little pillows of yum. Let’s hope they never leave Chef Andrew Sutton’s menu.
  2. Pan-Roasted Diver Scallops at Napa Rose

  3. Start a day in Disneyland park with Oscar’s Choice at Carnation Café: scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, Oscar’s potatoes, a croissant and your choice of bacon or sausage with fresh fruit. The eponymous “Oscar” himself cooks five mornings a week. Once his world-famous potatoes are made, Oscar greets and seats guests on the restaurant’s patio. (Oscar, by the way, is the longest tenured Disneyland Resort cast member.)
  4. It’s more than a sandwich, it’s a cultural icon – Le Special de Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou in Disneyland park. You can only order here at lunch, a decadent stack of turkey, ham and Swiss cheese in battered egg bread, fried golden. Dip in the little ramekin of grape jelly sauce for a savory-sweet wow.
  5. Le Special de Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou

  6. Balsamic braised short ribs at Wine Country Trattoria at Disney California Adventure park. These fall-off-the-bone ribs are served with roasted veggies and a white bean stew. Sip a crisp Zinfandel and relax.
  7. Bone-in rib-eye with chef’s potato stack au gratin at Steakhouse 55. Total indulgence, that hunk of beef. Paired with Chef Jason Martin’s potato creation, it’s a 10.
  8. Charred Nebraska Corn Chowder at Storyteller’s Café at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Creamy goodness with chicken, bacon and just enough cilantro to make it interesting. Call it lunch in a bowl.
  9. Charred Nebraska Corn Chowder at Storyteller's Cafe

  10. A south-of-the-border twist on the classic Caesar: Hacienda chicken Caesar salad at Rancho del Zocalo in Disneyland park. A heap of greens, sweet red peppers, Cotija cheese with housemade dressing and tortilla strips for croutons. Relax at a picnic table and people watch.
  11. The unusual Chicken Gumbo Crepe at Café Orleans in Disneyland park is a new favorite, with sautéed chicken, Andouille sausage , tasso ham and a kicky Creole gumbo sauce all rolled in a tender crepe with a side of asparagus and new potatoes.
  12. When we crave Tex-Mex, we head straight to Cocina Cucamonga at Disney California Adventure park for the Carne Asada (grilled beef) and Chicken Tamale Plato, with warm tortillas for wrapping it all up. Fill ‘er up!
  13. Best-kept secret: the sourdough bread bowl at Harbour Galley in Disneyland park. Plenty of picks: clam chowder, broccoli or Cheddar cheese soup or vegetarian chili. Nibble the bowl as you go.

Comments

  • My sister and I ate lunch at the Blue Bayou today and I had the Monte Cristo sandwich for the first time in a few years. It was just as delicious as I remembered it, if not better!

  • One of my favorite things to eat at the Park are the bacon-wrapped asparagus skewers from Bengal BBQ. So tasty!

And a new favorite of mine is the BLT flatbread pizza from Village Haus. I just love the mix of bacon and shaved fennel.

But my absolute favorite thing I’ve ever eaten at the Resort was a tuna tataki salad that Test Pilots served during the Food and Wine festival two years ago. It was AMAZING. I think I ate that salad about 4 times during that year’s Festival. I was so sad when it was gone. 🙁

  • TROUBADOR TAVERN up by the Princess Fantasy Faire is little traveled and they have an amazing BBQ chicken baked potato. I’ve eaten there every lunch since I discovered it.

  • Everything at the Carnation Cafe.
Breakfast, Lunch and early Dinner. And you quite often get Oscar to come by talk with you. He is a delight that really adds to the experience.

  • Love the bread bowl salad at California Adventure. The fried chicken at Plaza Inn is great too. So many great places to eat.
I wish they would bring back the hot links corn dog to California Adventure that they served at the corn dog castle. They were the best.

  • I absolutely love the Monte Cristo, but Bengal BBQ is one of the things I wish WDW would get. Those skewers are awesome!

  • There are so many interesting places to eat in Disneyland, but I must agree with Jason; Bengal BBQ Chicken skewers are Really Good !

  • I can’t wait to head out to Disneyland this August for the D23 convention. I have been to WDW so many times it’s hard to count, but this will be the first DL trip. Can’t wait to try all this yummy food!

  • Anything from the Bengal BBQ is our favorite, especially the bacon-wrapped asparagus!

  • I always get a sourdough bread bowl–it’s become a tradition of mine! Clam chowder is the best!

  • The fabulous Monte Cristo can also be obtained at the Cafe Orleans right across from the Blue Bayou. It is my personal favorite to get every time we go!

  • Don’t forget churros!! Not quite a dish, but such a treat. Helps ‘define’ D-Land, like turkey legs define WDW 🙂

  • I think I actually ate every one of those things on my last visit to Disneyland, Pam! The Nebraska Corn Chowder at Storyteller’s is outstanding. And I have to agree with Jason above that those chicken skewers at Bengal BBQ are a pretty great snack. 🙂

  • Where can I e-mail a letter of commendation for a cast member that showed remarkable customer service.

  • i realize we are talking about nice, sit-down meals here, but *MAN*, those corn dogs and turkey legs, though bought from food carts within Disneyland, are good enough to make you stop in your tracks and sit down right then and there!

  • To point out one thing that’s good at the Disneyland Resort is to say the least, impossible. But I will say that you can go to any place there and find what you’re looking for.

I do however have my list of favorites:

    1. Breakfast at the River Belle, located between Adventure and Frontier Land. They give you plenty of fried potatoes (not french fries), scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice. It always holds me over to lunch.

    2. Lunch at the “House of Blues”. They have a lot of great things on their menu, but their Jambalaya and Newcastle Brown Ale, just seems to do the trick for me.

    3. Definitely Napa Rose for dinner. My wife and I ate at the Chef’s counter for her birthday and our wedding anniversary. I have to say, that is the most memorable dinner (in a good way) that we’ve ever had. My wife and Andrew Sutton spent the time comparing notes and needless to say, that had to be the highlight of the dinner to her. Me, I just ate what they put in front of me and enjoyed it.

    4. The Blue Bayou. To me, that’s the less expensive alternative to dinner. I had a steak there and the entire meal was good. Being inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, just adds to the atmosphere.

So that’s my list. The bottom line is this, there’s a lot to try, and it’s going to take more than one trip to try everything that gets your attention. What better excuse does a person need to go to the Disneyland Resort ?

  • My #1 favorite meal (and I miss it so much) is the Chicken Six Feet Under from the French Market – 4 BBQ chicken legs stuck in a bed of mashed potatos topped with onion straws. It was a special meal only available during Haunted Mansion Holiday and every year I check to see if it has been brought back again.

  • I have long sung the praises of the chicken gumbo crepe! It is my FAVorite meal at Disneyland Park, and now, thanks to this post, I’m craving it!

  • i hear those monte cristo sammiches are dang tasty!

  • Eggs Benidict at Steakhouse 55 in The Disneyland Hotel
Any breakfast at River Belle Terrace over looking Rivers of America
And the Asian Chicken Salad or Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl (or just the Mickey Head Sourdough) at Pacific Wharf Cafe in Disney California Adventure

  • The Monte Cristo is good. So are the corn dogs. I am sooo hungry now.

  • BBQ at the Big Thunder Ranch

Oscar’s Loaded Baked Potato Soup and an iced coconut latte at the Carnation Plaza

Croissant Breakfast Sandwich and an iced coconut latte at the Carnation Plaza

Fried Chicken Dinner at the Plaza Inn (and the yule log for dessert during the holidays)

    Breakfast at the Storytellers

Soup in a Bread bowl at the Pacific Wharf Cafe

Turkey Sandwiches at the River Belle (REAL turkey people!)

  • I love the cornbread at Storytellers Cafe @ The Grand Californian too bad it didn’t get the reciepe 🙂

  • Yummy! I loved the Monte Cristo sandwich.

  • #10-BEST KEPT SECRET??? LOL That secret has been out for a LOOOOONG time! That Clam Chowder in a bread bowl is a STAPLE every visit as long as I can remember 🙂 Nothing better than curling up, getting ready for fantasmic, and snacking away on that warm, yummy goodness!

OK, but the other food looks fabulous too, some I have tried, some not, but it all looks/sounds tasty….I think its lunch time, you made me hungry!
I think I will surely add that corn chowder to the next visit!

  • Chicken skewers at Bengal BBQ!

  • My favorite used to be the Oscar Scramble and the Monte Cristo. However, on our last trip I had the Fried Chicken at the Plaza inn. It has to be the Best Fried Chicken in the World! Best of all I can eat it because there is no MSG in it! seriously I told my husband if I could have Plaza inn chicken every night for the rest of my life I’d die early but man would I be happy! =-)

  • Delicious looking food!
