Reservations Open This Week for Expanded Donald’s Dining Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is expanding from breakfast to also include lunch. Donald’s Dining Safari Lunch with Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and their pals begins Dec. 4 at the restaurant in Harambe Village in the Africa area of the park. (No Disney characters during dinner service.)

Donald's Dining Safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park

The buffet-style restaurant is a crowd pleaser and one of our favorites, with a delicious spread that always includes dishes with an African influence. For instance, breakfast include Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs and honey-glazed ham, but you also can taste bobotie, a delicious beef casserole that’s similar to a quiche; yam casserole (trust us, it’s delish); and mealie pap, a traditional porridge.

Chefs crank up the “wall of flames,” an 18-foot-tall rotisserie that roasts chicken throughout the day. The menu includes carved beef, curry chicken and fish, but there’s also spiced tandoori tofu for vegetarians. And while you can feast on plenty of familiar sides, try the chutneys, the Tunisian couscous salad or the savory vegetable samosa pastry. Pair lunch with a glass of South African wine, Safari Amber beer or a signature cocktail. Just save a little room for the warm banana-cinnamon bread pudding.

Little ones get their own buffet with mac and cheese, chicken, PB&J and other kid-pleasing tastes.

Cost is $14.99 to $16.99 for ages 3 to 9 and $25.99 to $29.99 for ages 10 and older. Guests can book Donald’s Dining Safari Lunch by calling 407-WDW-DINE (3463). Online reservations may be made after Sept. 14 by visiting www.disneyworld.disney.go.com/reservations/dining.

  • As long as you keep the food service the same for lunch. Please tell me the meal options will remain relatively unchanged!

This is one of our favorite meals…we’ve never tried the breakfast for the characters, so I would be totally cool if Donald and Daisy were joining for Samosas and Tandoori chicken. Unfortunately, we’re eating there November 18th so about 3 weeks early.

We DID pick a time to take advantage of the priority seating for NEMO. Is that still going to be valid through December 4th?

  • Glad to hear they are having one meal that is character free. We enjoy the characters but our daughter is no longer a child and we have not eaten here because we wish at times to experence a more adult relaxed meal. We have done many character meals and think they are great for families. Hope they never end but also wish for some balance so everyone can enjoy the special resturants around the parks.

  • We love Donald’s breakfast. We have a reservation for February, maybe we should switch to lunch.

  • Can you verify if Tusker House will still offer priority seating for Finding Nemo the Musical if Guests dine during specified late lunch times after the character meals begin on Dec. 4?

    • There will be a Nemo lunch option.

  • Is it true that the character bfast will have a Christmas theme during the holidays?

    • There won’t be a holiday theme.

  • Keep it character-free for dinner–It’s a good character breakfast, and Tusker has the best food at AK, but not EVERY meal has to be a character meal.
(I still miss being able to have an elegant non-character dinner at the Castle, and the smorgasbord buffet at the Akershus.) 🙁
