In honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, I’m excited to have a bit of news to share on one of my all-time favorite attractions, Pirates of the Caribbean here at Magic Kingdom Park.
Captain Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom Park

This classic Disney attraction, which inspired a four-part film franchise, has undergone a few changes in recent years due to the success of these movies. First, Captain Jack Sparrow made his debut at the attraction, then Captain Barbossa (pictured above) appeared aboard a pirate ship. More recently, the ghostly apparitions of knaves Davy Jones and Blackbeard have materialized.

Our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering dropped us a line today to let us know that something from the most recent film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” is about to be added to the attraction here at Walt Disney World Resort. Can you guess what it is?

Updates to the attraction will be made overnight, so Pirates of the Caribbean will remain open to guests during park hours.

Keep a weather eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more details!

  • The ride was closed 10/9, but what is the update? I can’t find any info online about what was added to the attraction.

  • Any word yet about the changes? The suspense is killing me:)

  • Jennifer, when will more details about this be out? Today is October 9, the date speculated for the additions, and I’m really curious to find out what’s in store 🙂

  • While mermaids is a popular guess, the clues point to ships in bottles, with accompanying storms. I like that this would remind me of a cool effect from the old Adventurer’s Club at Pleasure Island.

  • I think it’s great that they can do the updates overnight! I think I speak for everyone when I say, there’s nothing worse than having your favorite attraction closed during a “once in a lifetime” or really any, much anticipated visit!

  • yes ladies and gentleman Imagineering is going to used a jumbo sized version of the piranha from the jungle cruise in California along with the occasional mermaid tail popping up. Keep them hand and feet inboard mates it’s going to be a rough ride!

  • Everyone here is so wrong. It’s Aerosmith, Figment, Dreamfinder, Michael Jackson & C3PO in the all new “PIRATES E/O YOUR AEROSMITH IMAGINATION WARS”.

  • John & Allie, Im not sure this is correct as Johnny is currently in New Mexico Filming Disney’s The Lone Ranger.
